"LOST" is fast becoming "GONE!"
I watched "LOST" for several seasons but after watching
this last 3 hours of the group trying to leave the island, the "Forward flashes", the goofy BEN, the moving island, the exploding rescue ship and the people going in circles; I have decided to stop watching this mixed up pile of crap. Bring back the "X-FILES". It was weird but it was better Science Fiction than this big ball of string. Leave that very DULL "BATTLESTAR GALACATICA" in limbo as it should be locked up forever and never let loose. Just get a new and interesting Sci-Fi program for me to watch.....one that tries to explain most of the questions presented during the program, before the hour is up. |

I need a synopsis of Lost. I'm "lost" whenever I try to follow this show. I just gave it up. Battlestar Galactica, on the other hand, is some of the most excellent television that I have seen. OF course, I am watching it on DVD, so I get to the next episode immediately.

Yeah Lost is a tough one. I needed the DVDs from my brother to get a handle. Even after that... uh?

Critics are saying that the season finale was one of the best episodes of Lost ever and that season 4 revitalized the show after a disappointing season 3. I saw the finale Thursday night and absolutely loved it. It was the second best episode of season 4 behind The Constant. You're crazy!!!!!!!!

several of my friends rate Lost very highly, but I've never been totally hooked. I think I missed too many in the first season. Should I bother trying it again?

This entire season kicked ass, which was very refreshing considering the poor first half of last season. LOST is anything but "gone" in my book.

Lost season 3 finale was amazing because not only did the Losties eliminate most of the hostile forces, but was the first time we saw them off the island in a flash forward instead of a flash back. Season 4 was far better than the previous three seasons because it answered some questions like how the 6 got off the island, who was in the casket and what happened to everyone else (probably died from the boat explosion). We are still not sure about the massive food statue, smoke monster or the wheel Ben was forcing to move that probably sent the island to another dimension or time).
X-Files was an excellent series, but after Mulder was abducted by aliens the show and the acting turned to crap; Changing the name of Cancer Man to Cigarette Smoking man was bullshit. And don't get me started on the season finale, I get upset just thinking about it. |

I find that I get a lot more out of watching Lost by reading the episode threads over at Now Playing - TV Show Talk - TiVo Community. I read there, and not the Lost season thread here, because I'm often behind on my viewing, and they have very strict no-spoiler rules in their threads. But the theories and arguments are amazing. I catch a lot before reading the threads, but there's always somebody finding something else.

Never seen a single episode, but I guess that's true for most TV shows today (for me). Is it really worth watching? I saw my first episode of Grey's Anatomy on the treadmill at the gym the other day, and I was pleasantly surprised.

The first season had me going...
The second started to lose me... The third just killed it. Too much weird shit. It just isnt my bag I suppose. I was expecting a good solid series about a group getting stranded with some mystery involved. Then suddenly it just got mysterio land.

1. There are some questions raised from the pilot episode to which we still don't know the answers. 2. Every time a question is answered, two new ones pop up in its place. 3. There's a definite end-point, as the show will end after 6 seasons. Most everything should be answered by that point. If you can handle that, go for it. I also re-recommend reading the TivoCommunity threads for each episode for analysis and speculation.

To add my thoughts to lemon's, watching Lost is a very EXPERIENCE-oriented show. You need to enjoy watching everything unfold and trying on your own to figure out both what is going on and how it ties in to the greater mythology and how it changes what is going to happen in the future. You are constantly bombarded with events taking place at different points of time with characters who are alive in one, dead in another and...something else...in a third. Even after it ends, there will undoubtedly be lingering questions and ambiguity.
It's not a show about tidy endings or clarity or who-dun-it, so if that's more what you gravitate towards, you should probably look elsewhere. |

That said, though, the producers have promised us mundane, scientific explanations for ALL the weird shit. Nothing is going to be hand-waved away as "magic".
And--some more casual complainers complaints notwithstanding--you can see clear evidence of a thoroughly planned plot arc. There are things that got set up in Season 1 that are only beginning to get resolved in Season 4. That doesn't happen when you're making it up as you go along. |

I was at the gym tonight and some episode of Lost was on (I only watched the first part, until my treadmill workout ended)--some guy named Michael flashes back to how he got on to the big ship, and how the island won't let him die? How far back is that?... I must say, though, that it didn't catch me up in the story as much as my 1-episode-flash of Grey's Anatomy did. Perhaps I should watch TV more often than just at the gym.

That's the other downside of Lost. It MUST be watched in order and it MUST be watched from the beginning. There's really no way to start in the middle, because very little about it is episodic. It's kind of a big investment with four seasons in the bag, but I think it's well worth it.

However, I'm not so sure that a new watcher of Lost could jump on in and get hooked now, though the show has tried that with recap episodes and such. Not to sound too defensive, but it does seem like the show should be judged as a whole when it's over. It's two years away, which is quite frustrating and maddening, in light of all of the questions that need to be answered, but I'm in for the ride. |

I suppose I was a little gloom and doom, and you could probably get started not at the beginning, but you'd be missing an enormous amount of information and background about everyone and what they're doing. In the same way, you could start reading the Lord of the Rings with the Two Towers, but the story would be a lot better if you started with Fellowship.
You'd also be missing one of the things that I think really sets Lost apart from other shows, which is how much it has changed and how much its scope has changed. |

Wow. This whole Lost thing sounds a bit cultish. So if I ever want to give it a chance, I have to go back and watch every single episode, from the beginning?

I guess this will have to wait until I purchase the whole box-set or something, after all 6 seasons... otherwise, I don't have the energy to download everything and go back to the very beginning.

It'd be like watching Waiting For Godot and focusing only on why he hasn't showed up yet. Or Star Trek while obsessing over continuity. For the record I didn't watch most of the first season but got hooked as it approached the first season finale.

Just to give you an idea of how addicting it is, I watched through ALL of season 1 in less than 36 hours over spring break so I could then watch half of season 2 to be caught up to start watching live.
But real life doesn't really have spring breaks, I guess, O maybe I coldn't do that anymore, haha. |

I enjoyed this season more than the previous season. I'm really happy that it has a planned ending. I hate it when shows just go on and on and never properly end.
