Today at Maker Faire 2008, MacGyver creator (and real life inspiration) Lee David Zlotoff announced he has a big budget MacGyver movie in the planning stages.

Zlotoff mentioned he somehow ended up with the movie rights years ago (extremely uncommon), giving him full control over the film. While few specifics were mentioned, and no formal announcement has been made, its extremely promising that the man with the power to make the film is getting the ball rolling. The question is...do you bring back Richard Dean Anderson as old MacGyver, or bring in a younger, Christian Bale-type to reprise the role of makeshift gadget god? [Maker Faire on Giz]

Would you bring back the Richard Dean Anderson or some new guy? I honestly can't say but I wouldn't mind seeing RDA in this flick if nothing more than a cameo.

richard dean anderson IS MACGYVER!!!! there can't be some other dude playing him. this movie could've been better timed, like 10 years ago or so!

I used to LOVE watching Macgyver as a kid. Great theme tune too!

i cant imagine someone else playing Mac...it just aint right.

MacGyver is him, agreed. However, he's also Jack O'Neill from Stargate and even there he's retired himself I believe (don't follow SG1 since s4 but...)

I think realism will make it somebody younger. However, I'm not sure what a movie could add really. Except if you basically make it a long regular episode, and then only the fans from long ago will go see it.

I think its safe to say that RDA was responsible for 2 of the best characters in TV, ever.
