RIP - Charlton Heston

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., April 5, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Legendary actor, civil rights leader and political activist Charlton Heston passed away today, at the age of 84. He died at his home with Lydia, his wife of 64 years, at his side. Mr. Heston was loved by his two children, Fraser Clarke Heston and Holly Heston Rochell, and his three grandchildren, Jack Alexander Heston, Ridley Rochell and Charlie Rochell.

The Heston family issued the following statement:

"To his loving friends, colleagues and fans, we appreciate your heartfelt prayers and support. Charlton Heston was seen by the world as larger than life. He was known for his chiseled jaw, broad shoulders and resonating voice, and, of course, for the roles he played. Indeed, he committed himself to every role with passion, and pursued every cause with unmatched enthusiasm and integrity.

We knew him as an adoring husband, a kind and devoted father, and a gentle grandfather, with an infectious sense of humor. He served these far greater roles with tremendous faith, courage and dignity. He loved deeply, and he was deeply loved.

No one could ask for a fuller life than his. No man could have given more to his family, to his profession, and to his country. In his own words, "I have lived such a wonderful life! I've lived enough for two people."

A private memorial service will be held. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Motion Picture and Television Fund:

I'll just remember Charlton Heston at this time for his roles in Touch of Evil and The Omega Man.

RIP.

Though we made fun of you these past few years, you were a great actor.
Now go meet the other Moses.

RIP, Mr. Heston.

wow that's sad, I just watched Planet of the Apes on the 4th. :(

I'm very pleased to see that (so far) everything discussed concerns his (LEGENDARY) film career. Holy shit, for all he did in Hollywood, he was a man's man, and indeed did live enough for at *least* two lives.

I fucking hate that I identify him so much with the NRA. His passing, however, makes me want to delve deeper into his work on film.

I get a feeling I'm going to be uttering "Damn dirty apes!" frequently for the next week or so.

Damn it all to hell!

One of the acting greats - but it is interesting to read his bio, and learn of his involvement in many political issues. Had no idea he had such a long track record of involvement. Think what you will of his shifting politics, but he got involved, which is more than most people ever do.

RIP.

I'll always remember him for this line above all others.
"Get cher stinkin' paws off me you damn dirty apes!"

The NRA stuff was really late in life. I prefer to think of his film career and his civil rights leadership.

From an artist's point of view, he was truly a legendary man.

I woke up this morning and checked IMDb like I do every morning, and that was the first news I got. Terrible thing to hear, he was one of those individuals you just don't expect to die, even if they're at that point. Damn weird.

Go in peace Mr. Heston. Go in peace.

One last time, "Take your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape!

You had some movies that were incredible and touched many people. Your politics also touched many people.

Me too.

He was front and centre in the March on Washington with MLK.

Not too many other celebrities dared show their faces back then, but Chuck had guts.

I liked Bowling for Columbine, but I think what Michael Moore did to Charleton Heston was terrible. He cornered an old man suffering from the ravages of alzheimers and made himself (Moore) look like an ass.
