While it was not at the WHOLE movie, point in "The Bucket List" and my long time favorite "Always" will find my soft spot

Jules and Michael are on a ferry ride and Michael says: "kimmy says, if you love someone you should just say it, cos if you dont, the moment just ...

and Jules finishes his sentence : "passes you by"

and the ferry goes under a bridge and it's dark for a moment and they come back into the sunlight...

And Michael takes Jules and starts singing their song as they dance on the ferry..." some day, when i'm awfully low..." and jules cries behind him when she puts her chin on his shoulder...

And, at the very end of the movie Jules makes a speech as the maid of honour at Michael and Kimmy's wedding.

"I had this dream, that some psycho was trying to break the two of you up...(with tears in her eyes, she goes on) but I wake up, and i see that the world exactly as it should be for my best friend, has found the best woman... I didnt get you a gift, but... this is on loan... until you two find your song"

and the song begins "some day...when i'm awfully low..."

and Michael looks up at Jules with tears in his eyes as she gave him and his wife their song...

scenes from My Best Friends Wedding. :D

While I have cried at movies since, the first movie I cried at was The Joy Luck Club. I don't know why this movie moved me to tears but it does every time.

Redjake 03-20-2008 03:59 PM

United 93

I've cried at quite a few movies...but the only ones that are guaranteed to get me going every time I watch them are A League Of Their Own, La Bamba, and Band Of Brothers (technicallly not a movie, but close enough).

Halx 03-20-2008 04:19 PM

I almost cried at the end of Gladiator.

Grancey 03-20-2008 08:32 PM

I've seen many tearjerkers through the years, but my top tearjerker of all time is Brian's Song.

Willravel 03-20-2008 08:39 PM

When I was watching The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift, I rubbed my eye and got salt in it. I think that's it.

Yes. This and a couple scenes (a few?) in Braveheart.

Oh, and a particular scene in Life Is Beautiful. Those who've seen it, you know the one.

kligger 03-25-2008 06:19 AM

dancer in the dark, is probably the biggest tear jerker i've encountered, has anyone seen it before?

radioguy 03-25-2008 02:11 PM

mystery, alaska....at the end when the puck bounced off the crossbar and they lost to the rangers. you could feel the heartbreak and disappointment.

miko 03-26-2008 09:11 AM

One of the biggest tear jerkers ever is My Life
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107630/

Not a dry eye in the entire theater.

It is perfectly fine for a grown man to tear up watching Brian's Song.

But for some reason I feel like I have to check for my testicles in the scene from A League of their Own where they are going through the Hall of Fame and they flash on the Jimmy Dugan display.

Titan_Uranus 04-14-2008 12:55 AM

The kite runner.

Crack 04-14-2008 01:33 AM

bridge to terabithia

the movie made me cry, but only because it *kinda* reminded me of the book...

I read the book when I was 12-13ish, and Leslie Burke will always be my first true love, and I will forever treasure the time we had.

I am Sam
My Name is David

and
Idiocracy

for different reasons, of course.

lmao, Idiocracy. Cry because you see it in our future? I know I do. Great flick.

I am Sam and The Notebook both come to mind. Oh an the movie Crash when the little girl sees her dad get shot right after he gave her the magic cape... whoa that was really tough to watch.

btw. Good call with Bridge to Tarebithia(sp?) That one was a bit sad too.

healer 04-16-2008 06:58 AM

The Pursuit of Happyness. The scene where they have to spend the night in the bathroom of the subway station gets me everytime.

Starshine 04-16-2008 08:09 AM

Love Actually

That was a rollercoaster range of emotions in that film. Sometimes I would be crying because it was so happy, and other times because it was bittersweet, and other times it was just tragic. And I thought it was realistic, not like other "perfect" love stories.

mixedmedia 04-16-2008 09:29 AM

Terms of Endearment. I can cry just remembering that one.

The end of About Schmidt makes me cry.

I cry when Warren Beatty dies at the end of Bulworth.

American Beauty - when Kevin Spacey dies followed almost immediately by Annette Bening grabbing his clothes in the closet and breaking down. Heartbreaking.

Magnolia. Tom Cruise's breakdown scene. (I have a thing for characters whose veneer of hatred cracks when their heart breaks.)

The end of Lost in Translation.

Into the Wild.

I'm sure there's many more...

Whenever I'm in need of a good cry, I watch the scene where Juliet goes to Mark's and watches the videos he shot of the wedding. It never fails.

levite 04-16-2008 10:00 AM

The last scenes of Schindler's List, when the war ends, and the first thing all the Jewish slave workers do is say Kaddish.... And then when it dissolves to a full-color shot of the actual survivors and the actors coming out of Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, and laying stones on Schindler's grave.... I bawled like beaten child....

That whole movie makes me smile so hard, and shake my fist, and several other things. I love that movie. The chase in the airport made me so happy that I smiled for like two hours afterwards.

highthief 04-17-2008 05:54 AM

No has mentioned "Old Yeller"?

Yeah, you shoot your own dog and see you it feels ...

sapiens 04-17-2008 06:04 AM

Why does Rudy come to mind? (And I'm not fond of Notre Dame).

Shooting the dog would piss my wife right on off.

Ha, that's just funny.

BTW, I forgot to mention Bobby. This movie illustrated a real tear jerking tragedy. Killing off the hero just before he saves the day is too sad for fiction.

ring 04-17-2008 12:16 PM

There is one scene I remember....actually more than one.
1971..Al Pacino and Kitty Winn
"Panic in Needle Park"

shit...I don't even really wanna say it....cool movie though..if you can
even find it these days...

the puppy accidentally ends up running off the end the ferry....
oh crap...here I go...
