New Bond film title is confirmed

Quote:
The next James Bond film is to be called Quantum of Solace, producers have confirmed.

The title is taken from one of a collection of short stories published by 007 creator Ian Fleming in 1960.

The new film, which will see Daniel Craig reprise his role as the iconic British agent, will also feature Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko.

The next outing is the 22nd in the Bond franchise, and is partly being shot at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.

At a press conference at the facility, reporters were shown a minute of footage from the new film, including Bond swinging on a rope after an explosion at an art gallery in Siena, Italy.

Another scene showed him meeting M - played by Dame Judi Dench - outside in the snow.

Filming on the movie has been taking place at Pinewood since November.

'Driven by revenge'

Kurylenko, who plays Bond girl Camille in the film, said that she has yet to film any scenes, but is working hard preparing for her role.

"I'm doing weapons training and body flight training for aerial scenes and stunt work for fighting," she said.

"My days are so long, and it's very physical. She's going to be very different from the previous Bond girls.

"She's a fighter. This girl is going to kick ass. She's on her own mission and she's driven by revenge."

It is as yet unclear whether Camille is a secret agent.

Actress Gemma Arterton plays an MI6 agent in the film and has already shot her love scenes with 007.

She said: "I felt like a giggly girl, and I felt so young and inexperienced - but I kissed James Bond!"

The 21-year-old, who recently starred in the St Trinian's film, said her Bond role is "not so frolicksome" and her character "fresh and young, not sultry and a femme fatale".

I know everybody thinks that Casino Royale was the best Bond film ever, but I thought it was just decent. Hopefully this one is better.

Craig was saying he liked the title, and I guess if you understand the backstory and so on, it makes sense, but I think the average person in the street will be saying "WTF?"

The term "quantum of solace":
quantum -a very tiny amount
solace - sorrow

It's almost certainly referring to James Bond dealing with the death of Vesper, but I'm sure it's a double entendre.

Yes, as Craig explained it the title does tie in with Vesper ...

Strange title, but I thought Casino Royale was very good, so I have high hopes for this one. Also the 'bond girl' appears to be a chick. With boobs. I approve.

I'm not sure that knowing what the title means really makes it any better of a title, given the tone and subject matter of the series as a whole. "Quantum of Solace" sounds more like a sci-fi title or existential drama, not a James Bond movie. That being said, "Casino Royale" was a delightful film and I have high expectations for this one as well, regardless of what a dumb name it has.

I don't care what they call the film so long as it is as made in the model of Casino Royale...

agreed!

they can call it '007 Scratches his Ass in a Cornfield at Midnight', for all I care, as long as it can rival the previous film.

I agree Casino Royale was a great movie.... but think of the great stars that were in that film: Woody Allen (that nefarious, evil "Little Jimmy Bond"), Orson Welles, David Niven, my favorite Bond actor Peter Sellers (George Lazenby is a close second), William Holden, John Huston, Deborah Kerr, Jacqueline Bisset..... great actors.

I can only hope the next Bond Lives up to this classic.

Official Synopsis:
Spoiler: QUANTUM OF SOLACE continues the high octane adventures of James Bond (DANIEL CRAIG) in CASINO ROYALE. Betrayed by Vesper, the woman he loved, 007 fights the urge to make his latest mission personal. Pursuing his determination to uncover the truth, Bond and M (JUDI DENCH) interrogate Mr White (JESPER CHRISTENSEN) who reveals the organisation which blackmailed Vesper is far more complex and dangerous than anyone had imagined.

Forensic intelligence links an MI6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where a case of mistaken identity introduces Bond to the beautiful but feisty Camille (OLGA KURYLENKO), a woman who has her own vendetta. Camille leads Bond straight to Dominic Greene (MATHIEU AMALRIC), a ruthless business man and major force within the mysterious organisation.

On a mission that leads him to Austria, Italy and South America, Bond discovers that Greene, conspiring to take total control of one of the world’s most important natural resources, is forging a deal with the exiled General Medrano (JOAQUIN COSIO). Using his associates in the organisation, and manipulating his powerful contacts within the CIA and the British government, Greene promises to overthrow the existing regime in a Latin American country, giving the General control of the country in exchange for a seemingly barren piece of land.

In a minefield of treachery, murder and deceit, Bond allies with old friends in a battle to uncover the truth. As he gets closer to finding the man responsible for the betrayal of Vesper, 007 must keep one step ahead of the CIA, the terrorists and even M, to unravel Greene’s sinister plan and stop his organisation.
