Long Way Down

Anybody else been watching this series? I watched Long way Round and loved it, excellent series, Long Way Down is proving to be just as good as the first. Charley and Ewan are great and their love of riding really shows through in the series.

I'm hoping they continue with more series of this type, they really have a knack for them. Heard rumours of there being a Long Way Down Under, and a Long Way Up going from South America to Alaska.

I'm a big fan of this show.

I love having my expectations of Africa challenged. It's really not what I thought it was (and really, how can anyone have a mental summary of an entire continent!?) Despite the ambition and scope of what they're doing, Ewan and Charlie are always honest - if they are fed up with riding, they let us know. I really liked in the first series when Ewan talked about how spoiled he was as an actor with such an opportunity - how he felt bad about that.

A lot of laughs in this series too. Highly recommended. In case you aren't familiar:

Quote:

Long Way Down is the most recent motorbike adventure with Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman. Leaving on 12 May 2007, they travelled through Europe, and then Africa – from Tunisia to South Africa, via countries such as Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Namibia - a total of 15,000 miles. The team arrived in Cape Town, South Africa on 4 August 2007. It is a follow-up to the Long Way Round trip in 2004, where the pair rode their motorbikes from London to New York, travelling east across Europe, Russia and the United States. As on Long Way Round, they were accompanied by Executive Producers/Directors Russ Malkin and David Alexanian.

I love how the description of the Long Way Round that you quote above seems to omit that they also traveled through Canada (they were almost killed by some mad driver around Calgary).

Great series though.

That was a crazy accident in Canada during Long Way Round.

All around I enjoyed Long Way Down, wasn't a big fan Ewan brought his wife along for 7 days during this trip, Charlie didn't seem overly happy either, but kept his feeling to himself while she was there, and they didn't seem to be on their own as much as during Long Way Round. Once again another crash during the last leg of the journey with Claudio going down this time thanks to Charlie, not too sure how it happened, I'm guessing Charlie was pulling wheelies, he digs his wheelies.

Another great series was Charlie in 'Race to Dakar' he got to show off his riding ability a lot in that series, too bad he broke his wrist on the first part of the dunes, I'd like to see him go back and try the Dakar again.

I can't wait for this series!
You Canadians are lucky - it won't be showing in the States until Summer 2008. I guess the DVD is going to be available (from overseas) this month, though...

Not lucky, it hasn't shown in Canada that I know of, acquiring it from British TV is how I've seen it.

The best part of that accident near Calgary is the kid who rear-ended Ewan had no idea of who he ran into despite the tv cameras filming him. I saw the whole thing on Canada AM and the whole crew was laughing their asses of at Ewan and Charley's recounting of the event. It was picked up by the local news stations and they figured this poor kid was going to get holy hell from the kids at school for hitting Obi-Wan!
