Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex
I was a huge fan of the original Ghost In The Shell movie and lately I've been watching the Stand Alone Complex TV series on Adult Swim. The problem I'm having is that I didn't see the series from the beginning and the show never gives much background on what's going on (not in the episodes I've seen, anyway).
My questions: Who are the refugees? Where are the refugees from? Why did they leave? What do they want? Their own country? Japanese citizenship? Is the government of Japan trying to integrate the refugees into Japanese society, or get rid of them?

It's a lot to explain, and without spoiling it for you, I suggest you go here and read the character bios, especially for Gouda and Kuze.

Cameron originally envisioned the Terminator as a small, unremarkable man, giving it the ability to blend in more easily. As a result, his first choice for the part was Lance Henriksen. O. J. Simpson was on the shortlist but Cameron did not think that such a nice guy could be a ruthless killer. -From the Collector's Edition DVD of The Terminator |
