Great movie. Enjoyed it thoroughly.
Yep, I knew her first name. I was referring to people in my post solely by their last names....so I was questioning if hers is Carter, or Bonham Carter.

A repeat viewing with some friends has proven I was not mistaken. Great movie!

Well, they really cleaned that up for the movies. No self-flagellation, no insanity for Toby. A happy ending overall.

I kind of missed the "Oh sir/Ah miss" duets, but really, the story isn't about Anthony or Johanna, so I understand why their roles were reduced.

What I found the strangest was the elements that were added -- the parlor scene with Turpin and Anthony seemed quite odd. I really don't get why Turpin was discussing his books, other than to establish that he's a perv. Also, the last conversation of Anthony and Johanna - "I don't have dreams" - seemed incongruous.

But all that aside - I am quite pleased with this movie adaptation. I've never seen any of these actors in anything else (except for Rickman), and I've barely seen any Tim Burton movies, so I had no cross-expectations for how it would go. The flavor was there.

I'd also like to say -- I handled the blood better than I thought I would, but the final three deaths... wow. Each very brutal in their own ways, and perfect.

Sweeney Todd was a myth wasnt he?

One thing I can tell you for sure is that the Fleet is dead now.

Claims that Sweeney was real, and refutations of those claims.

I wanted to add a couple of other things I really liked in this version. "By the Sea" was gorgeous, especially the nearly-catatonic Todd throughout. Also, casting strong comedic actors in the secondary roles (Pirelli, Turpin, Beadle) allowed them to bring forward a strong level of melodrama without tipping into self-parody. Also, who hasn't wanted to do in Sasha Baron Cohen the way it was done in this movie?

I found this statement to be quite surprising. Do you just not watch many movies? Or like only old black-and-white movies, or indie subtitled foreign films?

Tee hee.
Mr Depp's in several Indie films (Dead Man and The Brave, to name a couple). Even a couple of black and white or two (Ed Wood, Dead Man)

Mostly Pixar. And that dates back well before my son (now 5) was born. Prior to child, I might also see a couple comedies or mild action in the theatres. But basically, I don't watch that many movies. I spend more time with books, internet, and shows such as Mythbusters.
