The Bourne Ultimatum... WARNING: SPOILERS/PLOT CONVO
So I just got home from seeing this movie.
I have to say, I've been on pins and needles since seeing the second installment, The Bourne Supremacy, and how awesome it is... that they'd screw up and make a horrible third movie, ruining everything. I'm so happy to say, this did not happen. In my opinion, this movie delivered in every way I could imagine, and more. I don't know if it's fair to say that one movie is "better" or "tops" the others, but each movie does sort of build in intensity, and that alone might earn this installment, Ultimatum, the title of "best" in the series. To those who read the book: please don't come in here and make this thread about whining how different the movie is from the book, how it's different, what they made up extra or left out... I don't care. At all. And neither does anyone else who saw this or other movies based on books who haven't read those books. And yes, every time you come in to a discussion pointing out the dissimilarities and how the movie did this or that, that disappointed you, it comes off as whining and annoying. I just want to discuss the movie. So here's my main question/nagging thought: What was up between Nikki and Jason Bourne/David Webb? It seems like she was hinting at some sort of past between them. I'm both happily intrigued and angrily curious that it was not even sort of explained, hinted at, or anything. Anyone else feel the same way? |

Nikki and Jason had a thing. Look for more information in the Bourne Legacy, expected in theaters in 2010ish.
I think it's great that theres a set of amazing books and amazing movies with different stories. It's almost like having 8 different Bourne experiences. I'm kinda glad they did it that way, because it may not have translated well from novel to screen. |

Sort of my exact feelings, and don't forget the Bourne Betrayal. The books rocked, the movies rocked. So far I'm happy to own all the books, and the two released DVDs. My overall feelings of Ultimatum was that they looked at Supremacy and just re-used everything that was good and updated what didn't work. The two movies are so similar in the plot/action/dialogs, but this third one really set the bar. Matt D really brought out some ass kicking and suspense, as with everyone else on this project. After seeing it I gave it a 10/10. In after thought its more like 9/10. I'm sure Ludlum would have been proud. If you enjoyed the movie I would suggest reading the books, its like a whole new experience but with TONS more detail in the same ass-kicking action filled package. ** On a side note, since the nation seems to finally be catching onto how great of a writer R.Ludlum was; there is one specific book of his that would be great on the big screen. The Matarese Circle. Man that would be amazing. Then again, there are about 10 others of his that would be nice on screen too. I'm just too much of a fan.

Overall I'd say it was a totally satisfying ride and, in my opinion, a better one than Supremacy, which had quite a few places where I just kind of stopped paying a whole lot of attention. There were some nice fake outs and surprises and the ending was a nice throw back to the beginning of the series even if it was a little Hollywood. Really the only thing that made me want to kill myself while I was watching it was the shaky camera. It was clearly an artistic choice to make the camera shift a lot during the scenes, but especially when it was just two people talking, it drove me nuts and I found myself constantly distracted by it.
Other than that, it delivered what it advertsied. A solid 8/10 for me. |

I really enjoyed the movie, and I think that they wrapped up the series quite well. The shaky camera was the only thing about the series that really got on my nerves, although I found that it was better in Ultimatum than in Supremacy.
I would love to see more Bourne in theatres, but I am scared that it will ruin what seemed like a good end to the cinematic series. I give Ultimatum a 9/10. |

Enjoyed the movie but the jerky camera stuff was overdone and distracting.
Damon said in an interview with the BBC after the movie came out that while he'll never say never, he really doesn't think he'd want to another.

Bourne will return in 2010. With Matt Damon and Frank Marshall.
