Iron Man the movie

the casting of Robert Downey, Jr., was brilliant! He's a damn good actor with a tremendous amount of range and intimately understands substance addiction. Perfect!

MexicanOnABike 07-23-2007 08:38 AM

it looks interesting but if it's anywhere close to the animated IRON MAN movie that came out this year, then it will be a total flop.

now that i got that out of the way, I really hope they do it the way batman begins did it. Now i'll just wait for the FULL cinema trailer to see if it's a must see movie. :)

biznatch 07-29-2007 11:11 PM

Enjoy :D

Baraka_Guru 07-31-2007 04:09 PM

Omigod, I think I just scorched my shorts!

troit 08-02-2007 07:45 AM

I just search for Iron Man the movie on google and GS - your thread was the 10th link on the list - simple I know but still pretty cool.

Hain 12-08-2007 12:53 PM

I can't wait for this movie... some questions though about Stark's glowy pacemaker... why is it glowy?

Why Tony Stark's pacemaker is glowy (Spoiler)   click to show

Willravel 12-08-2007 01:15 PM

It's a magnet that prevents shrapnel from entering his heart, and the glow is really cool looking.

Hain 12-08-2007 01:30 PM

Yeah my friend explained that was the purpose of the pacemaker, but he had no idea why it was glowing either. So it is glowing to be glowy, I figure.

blahblah454 12-08-2007 01:31 PM

This one I can not wait to see. I have always been a huge fan of Iron Man, Since I was about 5 years old I bet ya. He is way cooler than those other gay heroes (like spiderman, I even thought he was gay when I was little).

w00t for Iron Man!

That's how I understand it.

Fremen 12-08-2007 09:10 PM

Are there any posts below Will's embedded video post?
It won't open up beyond that.

I fucking hate all of these embedded video clips.
My dialup makes me skip half the interesting threads.

Willravel 12-08-2007 09:17 PM

I removed the html. Everything should be fine now.

Fotzlid 12-08-2007 10:42 PM

No. The explosion lodged shrapnel in his heart, and it was moving inward cutting his heart tissue. The device is a magnet to prevent the shrapnel from cutting in any deeper. Spoiler: He had to develop something in captivity, and one cannot perform surgery on one's self, especially not open heart surgery.

Fotzlid 12-08-2007 11:13 PM

ahhhh
thanks for the explanation
:)

Willravel 12-08-2007 11:29 PM

No problemo. Glad to help. I hope I didn't give anything away, though.

May 2008 seems a long way off...

Fotzlid 12-08-2007 11:35 PM

nope.
did read the spoiler though.
i'm a bit lax on my comic superhero mythology.

Fremen 12-10-2007 02:25 AM

Thanks for editting Will. You're a pal. :)

I've seen clips of this movie on various tv shows and it looks sweet.
I also saw a clip of the game on the Video Game Awards on SpikeTv.
It looks fantastic, too.

*c'mon 2008!*

Luke Cage 12-26-2007 07:43 PM

Robert Downey Jr. = Tony Stark??

I was skeptical at first.. but then I thought;

all he needs to do is play a smug alcoholic industrialist with a mad on for making cool toys.

After seeing several clips... I am most impressed with this one.

http://www.marvel.com/news/moviestor...an_Movie_Still

Suit is pretty impressive, I was also a little leery on that one as well.. see for yourself.

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...24/IronMan.jpg

So... anyone here planning on seeing it when it hits?

[edit, sorry about the white space.. lol]

Fotzlid 12-26-2007 08:07 PM

the special effects looked good in the trailer i saw plus i like RDJ as an actor so yeah, i'll go see it when it comes out.

Charlatan 12-26-2007 08:15 PM

I think it's perfect casting...

Willravel 12-26-2007 08:18 PM

I'll probably see it several times. Iron Man is the only neocon I like.

Manic_Skafe 12-26-2007 09:53 PM

The movie seems interesting enough but I know for a fact that Ghostface will be sorely pissed if he isn't allowed to contribute in some way or another to the soundtrack.

edit: Speak of the devil:

With all this talk about Common possibly landing the role of the Green Lantern in the upcoming "Justice League of America" film, we've all been sleeping on a hip-hop superhero from Shaolin who's going to get shine in another comic book film. In a surprising yet fitting move, Ghostface Killah — who goes by the hip-hop nickname Tony Starks and named his 1996 debut Iron Man — has a role in the upcoming "Iron Man" flick.

"I jumped in there for maybe 12 or 16 bars, nothing too major," Ghost downplayed before describing his scene with the film's star. "It was a good look for the kid because Robert Downey Jr. recognized me as soon as I seen him. He was like, 'Yo, Tony!' ... For him to recognize me, I was kinda surprised by that. I didn't know he even knew about the kid. ... We called each other Tony onscreen. I'm like, 'Tony Stark, I got your jet, I didn't mess it up.' He was like, 'I got the Bentley for you, I laced it up.' I had two girls with me, I was like, 'That's you [pointing toward the girls].' I sent two birds at him. It was a wrap for that scene. He's a cool dude and funny. Big up to Robert Downey Jr.

jewels 12-27-2007 03:04 AM

Yep. Saw the trailer in the theater, love Robert Downey Jr and a friend of mine says it's going to be great. I'll see it.

blahblah454 12-27-2007 04:22 AM

Robert Downey is awesome, I think he was cast perfect for this one. Iron Man has always been one of my favorite characters, ever since I was just wee. Plan on seeing this movie several times.

Hain 12-27-2007 05:44 AM

This movie better be good, it looks awesome.

And what happened to this thread?

Huh... the mods merged the threads... thanks for making me look like an idiot seemingly linking back to the same thread /laughs/. I mean, I am an idiot... but give me credit!

looks to be the best marvel franchise movie since spiderman

fantastic four is too corny and the rest range from barely decent (hulk) to awful (elektra)

That looks so awesome! I f'ing can't wait to see that!!

Hain 02-06-2008 07:03 PM

All right... after careful review //laughs//: Do the Ironman scenes look... hokey? Am I the only one getting really sick and tired of CGI emphasis in scenes that would be "too difficult" to accomplish in real life? Did too difficult stop Stuart Gordon with Robot Jox? Did too difficult stop Chris Columbus (for real that was the director's name?!) when he made Bicentennial Man (or that other Spanish/{whatever else historians argue he was} guy from crossing the ocean)? Did too difficult stop _[some other guy]_ from _[doing something else hard, help me out here]_? No they didn't just stick to the CGI! They used stop-motion or made actual hard suits or _[something else]_!

You're using Robot Jox as an example of special effects that don't look hokey? Dude, have you actually seen Robot Jox? If there's a film that would have benefitted from CGI, that's the one. The original Terminator would've been a much better example.

I have no issue with CG effects as such; I understand that it allows filmmakers to do crazy cool things without having to resort to time consuming and relatively expensive techniques like stop motion or miniatures or whatever else. Creating an Iron Man that can fly and actually look like Iron Man flying and not a model on a string (or a dude on wires) almost demands CGI. Creating armour that does the crazy stuff Iron Man's armour does, same deal.

That said, my primary concern is that they give the suit the appearance of mass. 616 Iron Man's original suits were so heavy that if they lost power he was completely unable to move. His new armour has crazy force fields and quantum mechanic stuff to make it lighter and more flexible, but I doubt they'll incorporate that into the film. For a good idea of how I imagine his final armour will be portrayed check out Ultimate Iron Man.

At any rate, this is a suit of armour that smashes through walls and stands up to blows from the Incredible Hulk (as well as anything does, anyway). It's not light, it's not flimsy. There's a sheer mass to it that needs to come across and I'm not sure from the glimpses we've gotten in the trailers that it's really there. Iron Man is not a red and gold version of Batman.

Willravel 02-06-2008 07:16 PM

Robot Jox was the Casablanca of giant robot movies.

I not only own it on DVD... I have it backed up on another DVD... incase it breaks. Besides, Terminator is not a childhood favorite movie.

Honestly... I am a Lego kid at heart so SMA really plays to me.

Still, you have to give Bicentennial Man props for an actual robot suit. In Iron Man, they could atleast make a suit. There doesn't need to be a guy on a wire, no blue screen... just A SUIT FOR ME... please!

That brought a tear to my eye and a laugh out loud.

levite 02-06-2008 08:07 PM

Nope, sorry. Gimme the CGI any day. I want my Iron Man movie to be like sitting watching an Iron Man comic book. Dude in a tin suit on wires isn't gonna cut it.

Also...

Robot Jox?! Really?! You're reaching for impressive pre-CGI effects, and you go straight to...Robot Jox?!

Dude, I don't mean to be hating, but...I was embarrassed for the people I saw walking into that flick back in 1990! Robot Jox is like two apocalyptic steps up from Clash of the Titans....

Willravel 02-06-2008 08:11 PM

The scene with Achilles' PTSD breakdown after his Jox crushed the crowd not winning an Oscar was the worst travesty in the history of cinema.
