Hells Kitchen
So does anyone watch this show?
The new season just started last night and as per the formula of the show Chef Gordon Ramsay asked the chefs to cook their signature dishes and then ripped them all to shreds. This years bunch is as diverse as always, and appear to be pretty damned incompetent in the kitchen. The women, who last year shot out of the gate and dominated the men were particularily disfunctional and totally ignored one of the cooks who happens to work at the waffle house and apparently is the only one who knows how to cook an egg. Aarron the asian crying cowboy? My god. Grow some testicles. I was glad to see Spoiler: Tiffany leave. She was a complete bitch who thought she knew it all.

I love Gordon Ramsay... I think the man makes an excellent character on TV. While I love Hell's Kitchen, I much prefer him in Kitchen Nightmares (it's on Food Network Canada and BBC America) and The F Word (the "f" is for "food" of course).
While he is a tough prick in the kitchen, they have really ratcheted up his "meanness" for US television. He was nowhere near as nasty as he is in Hell's Kitchen. Hell's Kitchen 2 will be airing in Asia later this year and I don't know when Hell's Kitchen 3 will air but I would expect it won't air for another year after that...

Hells Kitchen 2 is pretty good, I was happy with that series. I won't spoil it for you though.
I've watched Kithen Nightmares and I think there was another series with him as well, but I have never seen the F word. I have a hard time believing that Hells Kitchen isnt scripted though, it at times just seems kind of fake, how can people be that incompetent?

I have seen Hell's Kitchen two... I saw some of it before I moved and got the rest on preview tapes... It thought it worked well.
I am looking forward to the third series. I don't think The F Word is playing Canada. They are on season three in the UK.

I'm a big Ramsay fan, and first saw him on Hells Kitchen. Now that I've watched F Word and Nightmares, I think I like those series better. I think they've told him to just be a wild man on US TV; I really didn't see him attempt any teaching or culinary instruction on last night's HK. All he did was criticize and belittle the players. On the British shows he spends considerable time teaching people to cook instead of only belittling them.

His passion for food is much more prevalent in The F Word and you get to see him interact with members of his family. He just comes off a lot better in those series.
Thinking back to series on of Hell's Kitchen, the only time you really see him come together as a caring person is in the last episode. He stops being a prick and really seems to like, and be proud of, the final two.

I watched it for the first time Monday night. Very entertaining. Ramsay is a master or the insult. He makes Simon Cowell look like a rank amateur.

Too bad the little guy got the boot, I was interested in seeing how far he could go. I am assuming that its Aarron that gets sent off in the Ambulance, he's gonna have a massive heart attack or stroke out or something.

I liked the little dude too.
My pick for the "sleeper" who could actually win the show: The young black woman that works at Waffle House. They love to disparage her, yet I haven't seen anyone more skilled at actually preparing and serving food! |

Aaron annoys me so much. I can't wait until that guy gets booted off. What the hell is he even doing there?!?!?!?! This is probably my favorite show on TV right now.

I thought Aaron was going to drip sweat all over the fish he was de-boning out in the front.
I like the short order cook lady, as well. She has it together. Fuck the other women who disparage her!

They all rag on her constantly, yet when it comes to actually producing food none has topped her. She should not have been chosen for elimination last week. She should stop letting them intimidate her and stand up for herself more. I still think she can win. She has talent, and if she needs to study fancier cooking techniques in the future she will have no prblem learning them. |

Well everyone, its back on and I must say that Chef Gordon is more of an asshole then ever and I love it haha.
Has anyone seen his other show on BBC called Kitchen Nightmares? He's actually a saint on that show compared to how he is on this one, lol. Just goes to show that the network execs really force him to be a jerk heh.

Watched the start of the new season this evening. I hadn't watched Hell's Kitchen before but love the American Kitchen Nightmare. Kitchen Nightmare is really amazing. Having worked in food service before, I don't understand how some people keep their kitchen. Cleaning is just part of working in a restaurant.

The F Word is also a great Gordon show. Kitchen Nightmares is great, downloaded a US one last week and the guy who was co-owner looked like he thought he was in the mafia or something, the guy was a total twat.

In the US version of Hell's Kitchen, Ramsay is just playing a caricature of himself from about 10 years ago.
If anyone has seen the ITV doc series called Boiling Point you can see him working in his kitchen back in 1998 or 99. He has all the tough language and gives a right bullocking to all his staff but he is nowhere near as mean and corse as he is on Hell's Kitchen. It's almost a parody of himself, he's that over the top. But it makes for great TV. I'd say that F Word and Kitchen Nightmares (at least the UK version) is much closer to what he's like. Did anyone in the UK catch his cook a long? He did a one night only, live cooking show back in February as part of the Big Food Fight, a stunt programmed on Channel 4. Apparently there was a run on scallops across Britian (one of the recipes he made on the show).

I saw the episode as well. Same formula as the past three seasons but I'll still watch.
I can't help but think that this show is somehow fixxed, how can people be so incompetent? These people supposedly have a cooking background, have gone to culinary school and have worked in the industry yet they are totally useless. It just seems scripted at times. Charlatan also said it right, he definately is playing a caricature of himself. The into also made me laugh - 'the dark lord'? ha!

I prefer Kitchen Nightmares over Hell's Kitchen simply because I used to be a server.. and saw how some of the food was handled and kept. |

The US version seems more kind of forced to fit in with a narrative rather than flowing naturally... but thats just my opinion, we get both versions of Kitchen Nightmares here.
I think he's a prick to be honest, but he is funny. In the UK version he comes across as having a real passion for it, in the US version I think sometimes he comes over as just a bit of a bully.. but some classic quotes: "General Manager... General Tosspot!" (leaning in close and speaking quiety to restaurant owner) "I have never, ever, ever... met anyone who I believed in... less than you"

That said I do love HK. To me it's okay that he is playing a character because it's a game show not a "reality" show.

It is a shame thought that his legacy will be Hell's Kitchen rather than his stellar cooking.
