What's your favorite newspaper, and why?
 

Lately I've been picking up and reading a few newspapers a day. I subscribed to The Wall Street Journal last year, and have also been reading USA Today and The New York Times on a sporadic basis. I've also subscribed to The Christian Science Monitor and have included it in the poll as a "sleeper" choice.

I'm curious which of the major/nationwide newspapers is your favorite, and specifically, why. Also, if you could comment on the various biases the papers have, that would be a nice bonus. I enjoy picking up a paper and reading it, but I've honestly not been able to "settle" on which I consider to be the best. Thus, I'm eagerly anticipating responses/recommendations from others here at the TFP.

I figured I would post a poll, but I am sure I neglected to include a few of the newspapers that some of you may read. If I have, please post your specific newspapers here as a reply.

i was going to say CSM before i opened this thread. also i must say i don't read newspapers with any regularity. i get news from radio and cspan mostly.

i think wikipedia says the CIA reads the CSM because of its reliability. this made me like it.

i don't really like USA Today, it's too watered down. WSJ is interesting, i'll read it when i can. i got Barrons (free) for short time and it was cool too. NYT is a punching bag for Hannity and OReilly. it's a good paper though.

WSJ is supposedly right of center (or corporate friendly) and NYT is supposedly left of center (at least the editorial page).

I tend to read my local paper when it comes down to it. Most of the news I get is off the internet, but I like the local paper for all the local news and such that is harder to find on the internet.

When I read a newspaper, I read a local one.

The print version of The Onion is good.

Must have my Newark Star Ledger with breakfast and the NY Daily News with lunch

I marked local newspaper, but really it sucks, I just read it because it's free quick and to the point, and I want to find out what's going on in town.

Otherwise, I read USA Today, because it's free where I work. Otherwise, if I had time to go to a coffee shop and hang out in the morning I would read the NY Times. When I am travelling, I do pick up the local papers (main paper, and any independent papers), even if I don't read them then and there I like to look at them at some point and get an idea about what is important in that community. India's newspapers were the most interesting. It's great getting a totally different opinion on something like nuclear proliferation from a developing country rather than from a developed country.

the onion is great, but is its own thing.

Financial Times. It's nice getting a slightly more global perspective than American papers give.

I find it pretty balanced and enjoy a number of its columnists. The Friday and Saturday editions are full of great stuff.

I like my local paper, only cause the local news in my are is not local. The "local" TV news doesnt come out of my state but metro of another some 60 miles away, and truth I really don't care about the latest fire or shooting there. I choose USA Today I think the only time I ever buy a newspaper is when I am flying (cheap reading material) otherwise I just get my news via internet or 24 hour news channels. I like USA Today for the most silly reason, color! I don't know why but I love the color photos and they have plenty.
