Any Firefly / Serenity Fans?
Firefly Relit - Send a letter
Here is the sample letter you'd mail by tomorrow. Short, sweet, & to the point. The rationale behind it is to get SciFi to rerun the series which would likely spawn new viewers. In turn, that might spawn.....who knows? I'm sending one, it may be futile, but as SciFi says, "If". -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bonnie Hammer, President NBC Universal | Sci Fi Channel 1230 Avenue of the Americas New York, NY 10020 Subject: Programming Suggestion for Summer, 2007 To the Sci/Fi Programming Staff: Please consider adding Firefly for the Summer 2007 season. Sincerely yours, xxxxxxxxx ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The follow-up is on January 2nd. Send an e-mail to feedback@scifi.com restating that Firefly be added to the Summer 2007 programming. That's it! If you liked the show, take a moment. If you miss the date 'cause this was late, it wouldn't hurt to do it anyway. |

Already done. I've been involved in getting Farscape PKW and Serenity going, and we're curently working on getting Futurama, Enterprise, Now and Again, and Arrested Development going again. It's serious work finding the corporate sponsorship, actor, writer, director, producer, etc. availability, and finally getting the network to listen. We had to go around Fox for Futurama (BIG thank you to Sci Fi, you guys rock!!).
Surprisingly, I find time to raise a daughter and work, too. |

I'm the opposite of mexicanonabike. I absolutely loved the series, but I feel a bit lukewarm about the movie. While it was beautifully shot and had a lot of great action sequences, the characters weren't as familiar to me as they were in the series. Mal was at a low point in his career, and Book wasn't with the group for most of the movie. The other characters (except for River and Simon) just didn't get enough screentime to become familiar. The series, on the other hand, had enough time to develop each character and give them wonderful, individual personalities.
It's really a shame that the show was cancelled. I really wish I knew why the exectutives decided to cancel it. It was beautifully shot, for a TV show; it had amazingly interesting and beautiful characters; and it had storylines and writing that were a whole lot of fun. I'm sure that its cancellation was due to low numbers of viewers, but MANY shows don't pick up their fans until the third or fourth seasons. Seinfeld didn't really take off until Season 3, for example. I pray that good SciFi hasn't been completely lost. I just don't see any other Star Trek: TNGs or Fireflys on the horizon. I pray that I'm wrong. |

A friend of mine showed my Serenity and I thought it was great. I've been trying to catch reruns of Firefly on tv, but I seem to miss them most of the time or catch the exact same episode each time. The show seems really good from the one episode that I have seen though.

Like amire I enjoyed the series much more than the movie. I *love* the series!
But unlike many Browncoats I am not willing to expend energy into trying to get it picked up again. If it wasn't done after the goram movie, folks, it ain't happening. I treasure my season one collection, and encourage others to get it too. Oh, and another great little series was "The Lost Room" on the Sci Fi channel. Really well done. And I do think that has great potential to be picked up and go further. Cross your fingers, and keep your key!

well, fox really stuffed this show by not showing the pilot episode first (the train job was the first episode aired). No wonder the viewers were confused when you don't get the intro that the pilot episode had.
Gotta say I'm with Sultana on this one. Got my series DVDs and Serenity DVD. I'll just have to be happy with that.

I got to watch some of the episodes for the first time over the past couple of days because of another link on the TFP about online tv show archives. I now see what all of the fuss is about, as Firefly is/was an excellent show with great characters and atmosphere. I also enjoyed the movie, however it does gloss over the character development a bit, as most tv show-turned-movies do. Its a shame that quality programming like this gets dumped, but shit like Desperate Housewives , Survivor, and Grey's Anatomy keep right on rolling. This is why I never watch network TV. Well, this and hockey.

...careful, it will sink its hooks into you. Star Trek = Science Fiction ([yawn] this is so 1950s...) Star Wars = Space Opera (Okay, now you have my attention...) Firefly/Serenity(1) = Campy Sci-fi/Western-hybrid Dramedy (What?! Wicked!) Battlestar Galactica(1) = Space-operatic Drama* (Yes! Finally!) (1) These series share a unique characteristic: they both have interests in Newtonian physics. But about Firefly/Serenity: I'm happy with the fact that there was some closure with the feature film... and (at the risk of drawing your ire) I think this is more than we should have expected. I think much of the series' appeal for me is its ill-advised fate (i.e. "Poor, tragic Firefly... ). What's done is done. I'm happy with what we got. *nothing can prepare you... nothing!

oh man. ok i take back my 1st comment. i thought it was a great season! great story and characters. i Even checked out the comics. there's 3 comics for 1 story. it's a 3part... It's really good. great art and storyline. It's set between the last episode and the movie so it explains things we didnt really get to know from the movie or serie. check it out if you can. (torrents as a last resort)

I realize the last post here was a year ago... but am I the only TFP Firefly fan still re-watching the series on DVD?
I'm very careful not to get too tired of it, watching about one episode a month and savoring (in every sense of the word) each and every moment of it.

I had seen the movie and thought it was great. I wasn't into the series until my friend bought it. I watched a few episodes and was hooked again. I was really disappointed to hear the news from Whedon- I even own a brown coat!
Battlestar Galatica just didn't hold my attention. After watching enough episodes I felt the show was either too... hokey or portrayed the human misery far too well. Either way, I might get into it once the series ends and my friend owns all the seasons on DVDs. That way I don't have commercial breaks to reflect upon what I think of the show. Some other shows I was pissed went down the drain after a season: Threshold, Surface, John Doe (If they get rid of the last 3 episodes, they can bring it back!) ... Don't get me wrong I loved Farscape, but that show kinda went down the tubes after season two in my opinion. I think I kept watching it because it was a Henson company creation. Can they do wrong?

Yeah, BSG doesn't fill the Firefly void for me at all. Joss' character development is key to his shows successes. It's a big reason I loved Buffy so much. The show was silly, but the characters were lovable!

It's one of my favorite shows of all time. I've watched the first season twice on DVD already and plan on watching it more with some time in between viewings. I absolutely love the entire crew of Serenity and really wish they would make more episodes, but, like Joss said, there's negative chance of there being any.
The movie I didn't like as much...

Out of curiosity, do any of you have an especially favorite character? (Yeah, I know they're all loveable, but does any one stand out more for you?)

Hmmm, my favorite character is Kaylee followed by River. Kaylee is, of course, edible she's so damned cute. And I like her semi-naive, somewhat nonchalant attitude about everything. River just amuses me when she's not busy being crazy. The one episode where she starts talking with the heavy Irish accent to Badger. That's one of my favorite parts of the whole series. My third favorite would be Mal or Jayne... they're tied. My favorite non-repeating character is the crazy bounty hunter that comes after River in one of the last episodes. He was entertaining as hell!

I just can't pick a favorite- I truly love them all!
Capt'n Tight Pants has the best sense of humor, timing, smile and ... not to mention ass! (Loved "Trash") Jayne, you just can't help but love him. He tries so hard to be a "bad guy". But his hat just really does it for me. Wash is absolutely adorable! "Like a leaf on the wind"... I really cried at the end of Serenity. Simon and Shepherd complete the group in such a wonderful way. Inara is so beautiful and fiesty, I especially love her banter with Mal. Zoe is gorgeous and kicks ass! (I really like that!) Kaylee is too cute for words, and her eyes drive me nuts. River.... so graceful, so deadly, so innocent and so broken.

Favorite character...oy...tough one. Probably depends on my mood at the time. Can I pick the spaceship, Serenity? It's a realistic ship, with bathrooms, functionality, rust, and the design is delightfully, crappily cobbled together. All-in-all, a billion times more live-in-able than any Enterprise (did I mention that Serenity actually has toileting facilities) and far more sensibly put together than the Millenium Falcon. Plus, it doesn't have guns!

For me, probably a toss-up: I have a huge thing for Kaylee! Something about that fresh, not-too-scrubbed country-girl look, her cheerful penchant for painting the ship, and a gorgeous ass.
But I'm also, generally speaking, a big fan of Wash. Have been ever since that first scene. "Curse your sudden, but inevitable, treachery!"

I mean I loved all those characters. Wash was great, I loved his humor. But I must say that the best villain from any movie ever was from the movie. The agent... wow. When he said, "Do you think I will have a place in that world?" hit me so hard that he believes what he is doing is right. Best villain ever. If I became a villain, I wanna have motivations for self sacrifice like that guy. //kidding, but not really//

I´m Firefly free for 4 weeks now...because I gave my DVDs to a friend and she loves it. But I´m afraid I´ll start watching again as soon as I get the series back.
If I had to choose only one favourite character it would probably be River. But what I love most about Firefly is the relationships between the charakters and the music. |

I love it, but I've resisted watching all of the episodes because 1) I know there aren't any more, and it makes me sad, and 2) I'd want to get into the fandom and start writing, and I've already got my hands full reading, writing, and reviewing for another one.

Have to agree, the movie got me interested in the series. I love the series- but am pissed it won't come back. Firefly was there for me during real tough times. You know: when Farscape started going down the shitter.

So, it's not the show or a new movie but Joss has released a couple of comic book mini-series of Firefly. Both take place between the last episode of Firefly and Serenity. Also both are co-written by Joss himself along with Brett Matthews who wrote the script for the episode Heart of Gold.
The first one released is Serenity: Those Left Behind. It is available in Trade Paper Back and takes place pretty much right before Serenity. It explains why Inara and Book leave Serenity and wraps up one of the plots from Firefly, Spoiler: The Hands of Blue, and sets up the movie. The second is Serenity: Better Days which takes place some time between the end of the show and the above Those Left Behind. It just finished up but should be in TPB before long. Basically the premise is that the crew comes across the biggest score of their lives and is suddenly rich beyond all imagination. Then things go bad. Apparently the next mini will focus on Sheppard Book pre-Firefly and fill in some (but not all) of the details on who and what he is/was.
