Titanic Sequel?

Titanic Sequel Idea:

It might be cool if they did a Titanic sequel that tells the story of Rose's life AFTER the first movie...

Think of all the stuff Rose witnessed and did in those 90 years... The stock market crash, both world wars, giving birth, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, falling in love again after Jack, did she ever see Molly Brown or her mother again? Man's landing on the moon, woman's suffrage movement, civil rights movement. How did she became a pilot? Did she ever get back on a ship? How did she meet her future husband, how did HE die?

Titanic meets Forest Gump?

Charlatan 12-22-2006 04:50 AM

Life is like a sinking ship... you never know who's going to drown.

Lady Sage 12-22-2006 05:43 AM

Oh wow..... Charlatan... thats so wrong its right!

Sequel? Is the motion picture industry so hard up for ideas they have to remake old movies and beat the crap out of old ones?

Did ya knnow they are making a Shrek 3, 4 and Puss in boots?

Ch'i 12-22-2006 10:59 AM

Sure, I'll go see Leanardo die again.

I do. Mua, ha, ha ha.

Ahem,

IMHO, despite what you may think of that film overall, the scene where the camera sweeps slowly over her momentos, arranged on the counter representing her liberated life was very effective, and a life 'n times dramatization would only cheapen it.

I'm all for a movie following the life of a dynamic woman who comes of age across the 20th century (there's probably an excellent book out there already) but tying it to the Titanic Movie character is unecessary.

absorbentishe 12-22-2006 11:40 AM

Make it and they won't come... Sorry couldn't help myself.

I know that Hollywood's officially been out of new ideas since the late 80's, but seriously? We can't do a little better?

Mister Coaster 12-22-2006 12:10 PM

You know there is SOME Hollywood greaseball just licking his chops at the sound of this. Schlock like this would be utter crap, yet make all kinds of money simply based on the title.

CURSE YOU, JOHN Q. PUBLIC!

/ Not knocking the idea, suncrafter, I just doubt Hollywood would be able to make a GOOD movie based on it.

MexicanOnABike 12-22-2006 01:09 PM

or they could also make a spinoff sequel.
TITANIC 2: iceberg strikes again!
TITANIC 2: this time it's payback!
etc.
with a ton of CG, maybe a few explosions, a cheap love story.
"the boat gets hit by terrorists and it destroys their navigation so they're headed strait for a huge iceberg. The hero takes a little boat and hurries to get to the iceberg and destroy it but as he's placing the dynamite, his boat gets destroyed so he dies in the Explosion. titanic 2 is saved. yay. the end.

I keep thinking about two things:

1) That scene in The Player where the writer is pitching the sequel to The Graduate.

2) The scene in Barton Fink where Tony Shaloub's characters says, "You can't throw a rock without hitting a writer in this town... and do me a favour, throw it hard!"

Coincedentally, he also drowned along with another piece of her fine jewelry. This lead her to have severe hydrophobia, severe anuptaphobia, and severe arrhenphobia, two of which phobias are actually contradictory (2 points for someone that figures out which). She also had atychiphobia, but that was actually her mother's fault.

They're not contradictory, they'd just require her to explore the third option.

anuptaphobia: Fear of being single

arrhenphobia: Fear of men

So what do the points get me, anyway? Can I redeem them for a cool prize?

Willravel 12-24-2006 10:04 AM

Fair enough. 2 points can be redeemed for a free soda. Pepsi, I guess.

roachboy 12-24-2006 10:35 AM

i cannot remember a film i hated as much as i hated titanic.
every fucking minute of it was awful--except for one: the sound some guy made as he fell off the stern of the sinking ship, hitting a bulkhead on the way into the drink. that i liked. but apart from that, it was like putting needles under my fingernails.
the idea of a sequel strikes me a funny, though.
i would focus on the ship.
3-4 hours of looking at the sunken ship, sitting there on the ocean floor.
it'd be better than the original.

ubertuber 12-24-2006 11:21 AM

I think Bob Ballard already made that one.

It was better.

stevie667 12-25-2006 04:43 AM

Maybe they should do a remake, except strap chuck norris to the front so he can bitch slap that iceberg and they all get to port safely.
