Movies for a 12 year old?

Hey, I'm in a sort of a pickle. I was asked by my mom to buy a DVD for her friend's 12 year old son and I have no clue what to get him. Umm, he loved playing Devil May Cry 3 and God of War when he was at our place if that tells you anything.

Suggestions and recommendations are welcome. Thanks.

well considering those 2 games are rated M (mature 18+) = Rated R; so if those are acceptable, any movies would do.

edit: now for a serious recommendation: the Sponge bob square pants movie. for a kid, this is a great movie. even for me and i'm 24. i enjoyed it.

Are there any other cartoons along the lines of Shrek? I mean set in a different time, but are funny and make references to pop culture.

I was also thinking something along the lines of a pure action movie. Perhaps Batman Begins?

P.S. M rating is for 17+. 18+ is AO.

I posted the question on another forum and so far the recommendations from them are: Deep Throat, Backdoor Sluts 9 and Willow. Anyone seen Willow?

Willow would be fine (if they mean that Willow). It's a fantasy film (not that kind of fantasy).

My recommendation would be The Iron Giant. One of the best animated films ever. Has the same director as The Incredibles...which would be a great choice as well.

Sky High would be a good one.....my daughter adored that one at 12

IMO its a good movie for both kids AND adults. Kurt Russell and Kelly Preston play the super hero parents (and Linda Carter is the principal of the super hero high school hehehe)

Seriously, my grandmother bought that for me on VHS when I was about 12 or so. I hated the first one, although my brother was a big fan. It's currently a running joke in my family regarding shitty presents. Thankfully, my grandmother is in on it and uses it as an empty threat if we don't promptly write thankyou notes.

If he's into sports, there's always "Rudy" or "Major League". Since he's into the video games, how about "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon"? Or any of the "Star Wars".

How about some anime?

Depending on his tastes and personality I'd get him either Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, Spirited Away or Castle of Calgliostro. Great stories.

If he like just straight action get Appleseed. The CG-anime is a great action film.

because it came from a smaller company(not pixar or dreamworks) so it was a bit unknown. Then the 3d was not as good as the top 3d movies so the reviews were kinda bad. It didnt help that the jokes/acting was not great either.

As has been said, it's out of a smaller studio. Interestingly, the two gents responsible for founding the studio were the same ones who created Miramax many years ago.

I'll agree with mexicanonabike that the animation isn't the same calibre as what you'd expect out of one of the big production studios, but then that's to be expected, since Hoodwinked was produced on what amounts to a shoestring budget for a cgi film - a mere $15 million, compared to the $100 million or more that goes into a typical Pixar picture.

Personally, I liked it. As with any movie, your mileage may vary.

HAHAHA! Thats too funny... anyways, there are a lot of good Disney movies that are good even for teens (and adults). I like Mulan a great deal myself.
