The Mitchell Family Descent into Madness was about the scariest thing I've ever seen done on TV. Amazing work. And it just kept getting worse. I thought the kid's hand was as horrible as it could get. Then the daughter offers to be a whore for her freedom, and I thought that was as horrible as it could get. Then the mother is WILLING to whore out her daughter for Dexter's silence, and I thought THAT was as horrible as it could get. And then it got about 100 times more horrible...

I wonder what happened last Thanksgiving when nobody said they were grateful for their beautiful home. I'll bet it was bad. They all knew for damn sure to say it this year!

Dex has a new real problem, though. The family had no idea they were having dinner with two sociopaths. Something came out of "Kyle" there that they totally weren't expecting, and I think it was new and scary in a whole different way from how Arthur is known and familiar and scary. What's going to happen when Trinity disappears into the gulf stream? They'll have to know it was Dex. Yes, Trinity will be on guard against him now, but he's also revealed himself to the rest of the Mitchells, which is a major Code violation.
That's a nice analysis of it. Up until that portion of the episode, I was just going through the motions of the preamble and fading into a lull.

But then the kid showed up in his smashed car, and the real "show" was commencing. Regarding "the hand, the whore, and the hush", I appropriately reacted to each in the following manner: "Oh NO! .. Oh, Yes! .. Oh, Whoa!". It went on in a similar fashion once the dinner table gathering degraded into a melee of hysterics and attempted murders.

I'm still not entirely sure what is to come of the Christine-being-the-lost-daughter angle, (even though I was wishing that both theories offered up by SM70 would end up going nowhere) but I have a feeling Arthur is going to ask her to investigate 'Kyle Butler', and she'll say, "Wait? That's not Kyle Butler-- this is so-and-so, this is what he does, and this is his family.", all the while Arthur's face is gradually garnering steam at being deceived, and to what aim.

The whole season has been a Code violation. He should have never let Arthur's family know him.

I'm trying to wrap my head around how this ends. Fiona's ashes are gone, Jonah finally stood up to his father, Kylster attacked Arthur in front of everyone, and Christine perhaps is standing up to Arthur in her own way.

My guess is that these people, save for Dex, will all be dead within the next few episodes, but I can't quite settle on how. I like Quinn killing Christine for Deb, Dex taking out Arthur of course, Jonah breaking free and maybe even learning something from Dexter about dealing with surviving trauma, but Sally and Becca? They're standing in the way of me seeing closure on Trinity. If they die by Arthur's hand, that doesn't really work because it's too simple and almost seems out of character for Arthur. If they die by Dexter, it seems too monstrous. If they survive, they leave an opening that's too uncomfortable.

BTW, AWESOME having Masuka see Rita cheating. I cannot wait to see him come through for Dexter, demonstrating (again) that he's a true friend. He's been in need of a decent dramatic plot.

Well, there's also the other obvious outcome: Rebecca dies in the tub, Sally dies in a fall, and Dexter ends up bludgeoning Arthur. Kinda poetic.

Jonah? I guess he goes on his way, grateful to Dexter for his freedom. Or Christine takes him under her wing (though some sort of justice needs to be done there, for sure).

I was talking about this yesterday with a friend. I thought Arthur might do it, but you're right it'd be much better if they happen to die/commit suicide in the same way as before. Much better than the death of Miguel Prado, that's for sure.

Am I the only one that kinda wants Jonah to be a question mark, a sort of "either he'll turn out okay or he'll become his father" thing? That'd be awesome.

Was it just me or was last night's episode almost like it was from a different series? So much about it from the directing to the writing felt totally fresh, and really intense.

Great episode, and I can't wait to see how it ends!

Well they do use a different director for each episode. This was a very intense one. 3 more left. Very hyped!

I know this is the most microscopic of minutia, but has anybody noticed the recurring theme in the beginning of most episodes now (not sure if this has been a mainstay throughout or not) showing a zoomed-in frame of the opening scene, with a subtle reference to something more sinister than what is eventually portrayed after the camera pans out? To simply state, when I've managed to catch this in an episode, it's an ironic twist of phrasing trying to convey a malevolent, sometimes implied-violent act, when in reality, it's something so mundane that it's an afterthought to most (like carving a turkey, or administering innoculation shots, for example). If I'm not mistaken, but that was also the "trademark" formula for the animated series Rugrats for years upon years (except for the whole mad inner thoughts of a professed killer detail).

Besides that trivial thinking of mine, that last episode was a nice build-up to the oncoming final (season) episodes. If anything can be said about it at all, I absolutely felt the previews at the end of the episode were my favourite part of the entire hour. It was great. It was also very satisfying to see Christine squirm and plead for help.

And, you know, it creates the world of Dexter as a narrator. Even the most innocent things have a dark purpose lurking not too deep behind them. Like Hal says, that's the point of the titles.

I like his shipping container. But... did I see his air conditioner in the wall? That's silly--better to keep his slides locked up tight in the container than dangling unprotected off a hole cut in the wall.

I've changed my mind about the Mitchells. My prediction: Rebecca dies in the bathtub and Sally dies by jumping--probably at Arthur's hand. But Jonah bludgeons Arthur.

I don't think the Mitchell's will have such a poetic ending.

Figred I'd share a few possibilities regarding who is Spoiler: shot in the previews.

They want us to first think of Spoiler: Deb, but I don't think that's it.
Some people think it's Spoiler: Christine committing suicide, but that doesn't make sense to me. Spoiler: Why would she be out free at her apartment with access to a gun?
Some super conspiracy theorists have suggested it might be Spoiler: Harry's old CI who came back in episode 10. I think that's a pretty ridiculous idea.
The possibility I think is most likely is that it is Spoiler: Arthur's wife killing herself, after Deb explains to her who her husband is.

The finale episode is reportedly titled Spoiler: The Getaway.

I almost wonder if Potential Spoiler: Dexter will end the season on the run.

words are subjective. [also, I can't rightly express how much more attracted I am to her now than I was a decade ago when I caught her on the only episode of 'Angel/Buffy' (not sure one which one it was exactly) I ever sat through. Ah, she was also on 'Boy Meets World' and 'Step by Step', mainstay after-school serializations.]

Speculative Spoiler: So, I'm thinking about what could happen next week, and who could die. I thought maybe Deb would die. I figured Trinity might go to Dexter's old apartment, find her there, and kill her. Thing is, Jennifer Carpenter is married to Michael C. Hall and not only is he the star but he's the executive producer. So, I don't think she's going anywhere. Then I thought maybe Rita would die. That would leave Dexter with the kids though, and being a single parent would make it really difficult for Dexter to continue doing what he does. So, I don't think she's going anywhere. Nonetheless, this situation is bound to profoundly effect Dexter somehow, which leads me to my current theory: you'll be missed Cody. After all, Dexter denied Arthur the kill of a young boy. Cody is about the right age, and it's a great way for Arthur to get back at Dexter.

Oooooh, smeth, I hope not.

This week was spectacular. The ONE thing that bothered me... Christine didn't give up daddy's name. She shuffled off without clearing up the fact that Metro Homicide was onto the wrong guy. And she knew it. This leaves Dex with his shot at Arthur, but it seems contrived. If she's done protecting him, why take his name to the grave?

Folks, Lithgow is fucking GOD. The performance he gave as he infiltrated the police department was CHILLING. Dex is in fucking TROUBLE now, standing nose to nose with Arthur in front of Batista's desk. Fortunately Arthur still doesn't quite know what he's dealing with. He thinks Dexter is a blackmailer.

Yeah, I wish Christine would have given up the name. After all, it's only one episode left, and they could have played it so that the police don't see what Arthur looks like until after he's left the department. It would be a race to the finish between Dexter and the police, with Arthur trying to exact revenge on Dexter and be on the run at the same time. Of course, maybe Christine wouldn't have given up the name if Deb had offered to forgive her, but you can't blame Deb, and she didn't exactly know there was still information to be given up.

John Lithgow Sound Board

#'s 3 and 5 are most befitting (in terms of dynamic acting ability, not his current character, mind you).

God damn, you are not kidding.

That ending wasn't telegraphed in the SLIGHTEST. It was a complete blindside.
