Speaking of new books (we *were* speaking of new books, weren't we? I know I was, at least in my head), here's what I've been enjoying the heck out of these days:

If you are a fan of the mockumentary (like I am), I think you'd enjoy this book. It's pretty hefty (considering the topic), over 200 pages. The author is Mel Brooks' son, which I didn't realize until I posted this. Good job!

My girlfriend got this for her friend for his birthday. I read through a couple of chapters and it was absolutely hilarious. I've seen the book pop up all over bookstores recently. Good stuff.

I read the book one time when I was bored; it's funny and entertaining. It's not really new though, is it? I believe I read that like 3-5 years ago.

Does anyone else kind of wish the dead would rise for a few days? Personally I think it would be delightful.

I live in a secure apartment complex with a 10' perimeter fence, a locked door to get into the building, a locked door to get into my stairwell, and of course a locked door to my apartment. On top of that, I have easy access to the roof through my bedroom window, which I can off of in case of emergency as it's only 2 stories high. I've got lots of supplies so I can hold for a long time. All I need now is a machete and a boomstick.

Maybe I have thought too much about this....

Yeah, i own this book. It's great. What I love most about it, is that there are no real obvious "jokes" in the whole book - it remains entirely "straight-faced" right the way through!

Hell yes! Half of the entertainment I get from zombie movies is imagining myself being one of those people trapped in the mall, house, barn, etc.

Fear not. I, too, have spent way too much time thinking this. My best weapon at the moment is a two handed katana, supposedly a pretty good one according to the book.

I'm still looking forward to reading World War Z, also by Max Brooks. It's supposed to be just as good a read.

I saw a thing on history channel and they talked to the author a little and he said all the tactics in the book are real tactics that can be used in real non zombie situations and he just applied them to a zombie situation...

havnt read the book... but its been on my list for a long time...

Yes, this is a little behind, the follow up (World War Z, as TexanAvenger noted) is out and is very good. Not funny, though, there's no humor attempt with this one.

I saw the same show last night that JStrider did, and they talked to a couple other authors of zombie fiction. The titles of the books were "City of the Dead", and "Run". I was just curious if anyone here had read either of those, and if so, how were they?

I've read the ZSG several times and totally love it. Some friends of mine had t-shirts made up that read "Zombie Hunters Union Local 666" with the crossed machete and rifle logo on the front and "Organize before they rise" on the back.

So, my bf picked this up in TO before a three day - 30 hr road trip to Sask. Needless to say hours and hours were spent in endless debate over the best and safest way to survive a zombie attack. Is an island better? Is the north better? Is sask better? How big of communities can survive without getting too big? Reconstruct the rail to join together communtiies that are close. How much land is needed to grow enough food for the ppl in your community. ect. ect. ect.
Needless to say, it was a long drive. Fun though.
The book is hilarious.
