Stargate SG-1 cancelled

This season, the 10th, will be the last for this show. Damnit.

FUCKING BASTARDS!

newtx 08-22-2006 10:27 AM

Well that just suxx.

Willravel 08-22-2006 12:39 PM

It didn't say why. I mean the ratings are quite good, considering it's on the Sci Fi channel. I think it would be better to simply decrease the budget for a few years and have guest writers from Battlestar come over and fill in the blanks. Cancellation doesn't seem the right decision right now. Sci Fi is at a critical juncture. The ratings are rising, slowly, due to new series like BSG and Eureka. Now would be the time to come out swinging with series that already have large devoted followings like SG1.

At least now we know the Ori storyline will be ending at the end of the season.

Ch'i 08-22-2006 12:43 PM

I never understood why networks cancel some of their most popular/top grossing shows at the peak of their excellence. If they even touch Battlestar, I might have to set my pacifism aside...

Zeraph 08-22-2006 02:30 PM

Ahhhhh...it had a good run though.

Charlatan 08-22-2006 02:37 PM

Ten years is huge.

It's better to stop now before the series really goes off the rails. They made a great effort at changing the show when Richard Dean Anderson (and others) left. I was surprised, it was bold of them.

But these things can't go on forever.

I am sure SiFi just wants to spend it's production money on some new ideas.

Ch'i 08-22-2006 03:01 PM

I agree with you guys (Zeraph & Charlatan). It did have a good run.

guy44 08-22-2006 04:29 PM

It's too bad. I really like this show. I just hope they have ample time to wrap things up, and don't have to shoe-horn everything into just a few episodes.

However, the show doesn't quite have the kick it had in season 8, and at least Atlantis is still going, because it's a better show at this point. Seriously, Rodney McKay might be one of the top 5 characters on TV.

Grancey 08-22-2006 05:30 PM

Oh, great. This is my hair stylist's favorite show. He is gonna be so pissed. He talks about this show all the time.

feelgood 08-22-2006 10:26 PM

Stargate SG-1 is the longest sci-fi show in history, so I think it's about time that it came to an end. Ya gotta admit that after the Goa'uld and Replicators were defeated at the end of season 8, it kind of went downhill from then, for me at least.

Baal and the replicators are still alive and kicking.

Is your hair stylist just a Citizen Joe w/ a love of donuts?

But yeah, its going to be a shame when the series ends, especially if they don't have time to properly finish out the current story arc. SG1 is probably the only show that's been cancelled that I love that I'm not too upset about though. It's had a great run, but it's lost alot of the momentum that made the show great. Would like to see extended for just one more season, finish the current story arc in the middle of it, and spend the rest of the time wrapping up loose ends and stand alone episodes. I just hope they don't try to end the series w/ everyone scattering from the SGC. Maybe just have the final shot be SG1 going on a routine patrol.
/end ramblings

Yeah well, I'm still stuck in season 8 mode :D

I think the show has had a nice run but has fallen flat the last couple of season. Better to kill it before it really starts to suck.

feelgood 08-23-2006 09:26 PM

I'm really hoping that they'll pop out a good sequel to the first movie as well video games.

Anyone remember that sega stargate game? That was awesome :D

The Farscape and Firefly movies were incredible. An SG-1 movie - with the TV cast - would be on my list of things to see. Shoot, I'll probably be one of the people going from corporation to corporation asking for support (just like I did for Farscape, Firefly, and Enterprise).

Daniel_ 08-24-2006 10:10 AM

It seemed obvious that something was going to give when they started to put all the money into Atlantis.

10 years is a vry very good run though, and they've kept the quality nearly up to the same high level all the way through.

Just setting one thing straight though - 10 years may be an american recrd, but over here, we had uninterupted "Doctor Who" for about thirty years, then a hiatus, before it came back last year ;)

snowy 08-24-2006 10:17 AM

This makes me sad.

With the introduction of Ben Browder and Beau Bridges it was like a whole new show, and I really liked the "new" show. I also liked the tie-ins between Atlantis and SG-1.

Ah well...guess I better just enjoy this last season...sniffle.

Zotz 08-24-2006 01:48 PM

What a bummer.....

TexanAvenger 08-24-2006 09:16 PM

In a word: fuck. SG1 is among the ranks of Quantum Leap and The Twilight Zone now. It's iconic for the sci-fi nerds of the world.

And on the day I discover stargates in Second Life, too.

Grancey 08-25-2006 02:42 PM

Well, I saw my hair stylist today and told him the news. He was not aware of the story, and he does not believe that it has been cancelled. He is in a band, and the band cannot rehearse or play on Friday nights because he is watching this show. I probably should have kept my mouth shut, but I was sure that he already knew.

Agreed. I have the DVD of the pilot episode, dated 1997. Have to admit I was surprised to see full frontal nudity for one of the minor character women.

Fremen 09-10-2006 10:00 PM

This is bad news, indeed.

I will miss Amanda Tapping. *cries*

Farscape had a movie?

Willravel 10-08-2006 10:34 PM

Peacekeeper Wars. I'll mail you my DVD. It's damned good.

Agreed. This three part mini-series was a highlight of Farscape. Great conclusion to a great story.

Zeraph 06-23-2007 02:14 PM

I'm surprised there was no talk of the last episode last night.

I thought it was good, but was a little disapointed there was no final conclusion. Though it makes sense how it ended too, since it wasn't the type of show that had a beginning and end. I liked the Asgaurd bit but thought it should have been a bit more of a solemn moment.

Willravel 06-23-2007 02:21 PM

I was very disappointed. The Azgard are gone. The Ori are probably no longer a threat. Teal'c is old. No General O'Niel.

These movies better be good.

Hence, the ending of the show :orly:

Willravel 06-23-2007 03:04 PM

Straight to DVD movies are soon to come, continuing SG-1.

Then you'll be pleased to know that she's joining the SG Atlantis team in their next season.

Yeah - they effed up Dr. Wier (hotness) or maybe killed her on the season finale of Atlantis. This means Carter (did somebody say promotion?) can take over Atlantis for the ratings boost.

So I know they put Teal'C into a small time dilation bubble so that he could stop Carter from engaging it and open the Hyperspace window etc. The thing that I can't get my head around is why there is not two Teal'Cs. I mean I know that is the whole point of putting him in the bubble, but I still don't get it. There should be two of him, which would be kinda interesting anyway.

Also, In 50 years no one thought to just repair the shields?

I will miss SG-1. I really enjoyed the show.

I think they were using all the power to stay in that field. Weir will become a recurring character. Think General Hammond.

I was disappointed, too. I liked the episode and thought it was good, but it seemed more like a season finale than a series finale. There just wasn't enough closure for me, I guess. It was like, "Yep. We're going to keep on going with our missions. You just don't get to see what happens any more. Ha ha!" Fuckers.

The Teal'C thing was because they didn't go back in time per say, it was a reversal of what they lived. Otherwise there would be a double of everyone.

The shield thing I am less certain of, but I'm guessing it counted as "outside" their time dialation bubble so they couldn't effect it for the same reason they couldn't move the ship out of the way.
