I'm worried about that too. There is no way ABC can show what the books are really like. Not only the Mord Sith, but pretty much all the battles.

You'll know in a few months it seems:

I am really interested to see how this turns out. Oh how I hope they do it well.

Disney... Seriously, and ABC.. This has "epic failure" written all over it.

Sam Raimi, the mastermind behind the Spider-Man trilogy, has found the leads for his upcoming weekly fantasy series, Wizard\\\\s First Rule.

Relative newcomers Craig Horner and Bridget Regan will star in the series, which is based on the eponymous book by Terry Goodkind, says the Reporter. Horner, who hails from Australia, will play Richard Cypher, a man who becomes a magical leader. Cypher joins the mysterious Kahlan (played by Regan) to try to put the kibosh on a tyrannical leaders who ostensibly ruining everyones lives.

Production on the show starts this month in New Zealand, of course — the only country fit for magic and wizards. Could this new series match the action of Spider-Man? Only time (and some awesome special effects) will tell how Raimis imagination translates to the small screen. — Anna Dimond

NEW ORLEANS -- Craig Horner and Bridget Regan have been tapped to star in Sam Raimi's syndicated series "Wizard's First Rule," which launches in the fall.

The scripted series, an hourlong weekly from Disney-ABC Domestic Television and ABC Studios, is based on Terry Goodkind's book "Wizard's First Rule" and epic fantasy series "The Sword of Truth."

Horner will star as woodsman Richard Cypher, who transforms into a magical leader and joins with a mysterious woman named Kahlan (Regan) to stop a bloodthirsty, sinister tyrant.

Horner, an Australia native, recently co-starred on the Australian series "Blue Water High." Regan recently co-starred in the Broadway comedy "Is He Dead?"

"Wizard's" has been cleared in 95% of the country for its fall launch. Production on the 22 episodes begins this month in New Zealand.

Raimi is executive producing with Robert Tapert, Joshua Donen, Ned Nalle and John Shiban.

According to the source (official source) we will have more of an updated cast list shortly. Zedd, Adie, and Rahl, I'm guessing.

Horner and Regan are currently, learning sword fight, and horse riding.... hopefully, they'll be able to pull it off!

JStrider 06-06-2008 04:29 PM

I just finished Confessor today...

hopefully this will be good...

I am reading this series for the first time, I am on book two and enjoying the read. I look forward to this to hit television. This is the second reason I will be watching ABC this fall, because I hear that "Scrubs" is going to be picked up for another season on ABC this year instead of NBC.

mark your calendars folks.

HIGHLY ANTICIPATED ACTION-ADVENTURE SERIES "WIZARD'S FIRST RULE" TO PREMIERE WEEKEND OF NOVEMBER 1ST IN NATIONAL SYNDICATION

New Epic Fantasy Series Celebrates Heroes, Heroines and Good vs. Evil In Exhilarating, Two-Hour Premiere Event

BURBANK, CA - The worlds of fantasy, adventure, magic, mystery and romance collide this fall in a new first-run, live action weekly series, "Wizard's First Rule," premiering the weekend of NOVEMBER 1 in national syndication, it was announced today by Disney-ABC Domestic Television and ABC Studios.

Shot with the exotic and rugged New Zealand landscape as its backdrop, the one-hour scripted series from executive producers Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, Joshua Donen, Ned Nalle and Kenneth Biller will kick off with a thrilling two-hour premiere event.

From the talented team behind the long-running, successful series "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" and "Xena: Warrior Princess," and the studio that produces primetime network hits including "Lost," "Grey's Anatomy," "Desperate Housewives," "Ghost Whisperer" and "Army Wives" comes the next generation of action-adventure series. "Wizard's First Rule" follows the extraordinary travels of woodsman Richard Cypher (Craig Horner), who discovers his own magical powers. With the help of a mysterious woman named Kahlan (Bridget Regan) and a wise old wizard named Zedd, Richard must stop a ruthless tyrant from unleashing an ancient evil and enslaving the world.

"Adapting Terry Goodkind's brilliant work for television is a thrilling opportunity," said executive producer Sam Raimi. "The amazing characters and heartfelt story, combined with the captivating backdrop of New Zealand, will have viewers on the edge of their seats."

Rob Tapert, executive producer, added: "Everyone on the production team is committed to making a mini-feature film each and every week. The combination of a talented cast, incredible special effects and stunning locations has given us all the tools we need to create a truly memorable television series."

"Wizard's First Rule" has been cleared by Disney-ABC Domestic Television in 95% of the country to date, including all of the top 50 markets. The one-hour series is based on Terry Goodkind's best-selling book, Wizard's First Rule and epic fantasy series The Sword of Truth.

"Wizard's First Rule" is produced by ABC Studios, marking their first venture into broadcast syndication. Sam Raimi ("Spider-Man," "Spider-Man 2," "Spider-Man 3" and "The Evil Dead"), Rob Tapert ("The Grudge," "Xena: Warrior Princess," "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" and "Cleopatra 2525"), Joshua Donen ("The Quick and the Dead"), Ned Nalle (production executive for "Xena: Warrior Princess" and "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys") and Kenneth Biller ("Star Trek: Voyager" and "Six Degrees") serve as executive producers.

Series has been renamed "Legend of the Seeker" with new website and trailer at legendoftheseeker.com

Well, the big news to come out of the Wizard's First Rule panel was that the series is not going to be called Wizard's First Rule. The new title is Legend of the Seeker. Why? Well, according to panelists and author Terry Goodkind the name change was made to focus on the hero of the book itself rather than the main book of the series.

A few other tidbits from the panel and press event can be found after the jump.

As Brett reported last week, the show will start in syndication on November 1st (filming has already begun). It has been cleared in about 97% of the stations. Most of these, according to executive producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, are part of the Tribune network of television stations. It will air on Saturday nights and, in many cases, be part of the CW's leased-programming block.

The first season will be 22 episodes, with a two-hour season premiere. Each episode will be standalone and feature a beginning and an end. Wizard's First Rule author Terry Goodkind said that he wanted to have this format to allow fans of the series as well as new viewers to be able to jump into the show at any time. The first season will cover the main plot points of Wizard's First Rule, which chronicle the adventures of Richard Cypher, Kahlan, and the old, wise and powerful wizard Zedd (are there any young, silly and weak wizards?).

Everyone on the panel agreed that this was the right time for a syndicated series. Terry had always been looking for an avenue to get his characters onto the screen and Sam, Rob and Ken Biller helped him to get that request fulfilled. It didn't hurt that both Sam and Rob, as well as their kids, are big fans of the book series.

When asked if Legends will have some of the humor present in his previous syndicated outings of Hercules and Xena, Raimi answered that their will be humor, but it will come from the characters and not the situations. Raimi added that Legends will remain as true to the books as it can, which means fairly serious.

Even though the books are fairly violent, the Legends series has been toned down a bit for the television audience. However, said Tapert, being that they are a syndicated show has given them a bit of leeway. So, there will be blood coming from people's mouths after a lung injury but "no bubbles".

In addition to previously announced actors Craig Horner (Richard Cypher) and Bridget Regan (Kahlan), Raimi announced that actor Bruce Spence (Mad Max, The Matrix Revolutions) will portray Zedd. Also, Jay Laga'aia (Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith) will portray the boundary patrolman Chase.

When asked about digital enhancements for the show, Tapert said that the environment -- New Zealand -- will not be tampered with. However, there will be digital enhancements for some of the magical creatures the adventurers encounter.

When asked about potential lash-back from fans of the series who will be upset about the format of the show, Goodkind said he expects some kind of angry response. But, said Terry, as long as they get the characters right the stories are not important: fans want to see the characters they love brought to screen.

A new trailer has been released at the Legend of the Seeker website.

If I may be nitpicky, that dude is not nearly big enough for Richard.

Crack 07-25-2008 04:14 PM

I want to see the mud people, Sister Verna, the prelate, the Palace of the Prophets, Warren, Baka Ban Mana blademasters, Adie, Zed, Gratch, Nathan, Emperor Jagang, Chase, Rachel, Cara, D'hara, Nicci...

pretty much everything.

The is going to have some damn big shoes to fill, if it isn't on par with Harry Freaking Potter in scope and production, I am going to be upset.

Drider_it 10-30-2008 08:25 AM

Legend of the Seeker here is the 1st 10 min of the 2hr movie. Hmm don't seem too much like xena or herc to me. So far im impressed yet annoyed.

i understand they have to rework it for tv but gah.. kalahn loses her green eyes richard always talks about. From what the offical site gives in the 6-7 vids all over it.. richard lacks the part where he memorizes the Book of Counted Shadows already they have to go out and find it.. yet another change.

its showing on Fox33 here in north louisiana, I'd rather it had been on sci-fi, due to the dark topics that happen like with the Mord-sith.

it airs this saturday at 5pm not counting local times. for me its 5pm central time.

they already have about 6 epi done. and 4 or so left shooting from what ive seen.

Drider_it 11-01-2008 03:01 PM

The Seeker has been named...!!!!!!

Yeah, I'm reminded of the craptastic "Earthsea" miniseries, on TV.

DonnieBoy 11-03-2008 05:20 PM

Tried watching the first episode... the story so far has been butchered beyond reason.... if i knew how to do the spoiler code thingy I'd list a few but anyone who watched the first 15 minutes knows what im talking about... blah... may try to finish it later

DB

Drider_it 11-03-2008 08:48 PM

well the fact its "based on wizards first rule by terry goodkind" told me right there they wouldn't stay with the books.. its just a travel adventure series where they have the over all plot of killing/defeating darken rahl.. heh

just hope it gets better.. maybe sci-fi will pick it up next season and make it better.

Zeraph 11-06-2008 12:20 PM

Dang forgot to watch it. The previews looked good, but from what everyone is saying now...

Unrelated note: Anyone else get this series mixed up in their head with the wheel of time series?

JStrider 11-06-2008 05:35 PM

dang... totally missed out on the recent posts here...

didnt even know it was being aired... well I'm acquiring the first episode and we'll see if I decide to start watching it regularly...

Drider_it 11-07-2008 10:42 AM

lol i found out it was on the air the day it showed.. friend in up north she hooked me up to the show's time and my timezone. Although its nothing to the books but the overall 1st book plot to destroy Darken Rahl, and the main characters names, its good for something new.

Hey, at least we get to see magic being tossed around in a "magic fantasy" more than most movies and series now a days that promise it.

JStrider 11-07-2008 03:08 PM

Watched it...

it was pretty fun... there were a few places with a pretty high cheese factor...

I'll prolly keep watching it...

Drider_it 11-09-2008 06:46 PM

welp with the advent of them reaching out.. wonder if they will end up at the mud peoples area? Man, I've about memorized every book really. Its hard to keep from saying "OMFG why don't they show *insert name of character*

Thing is if you've read the whole series you know the "overall" plot, yet I just don't see it in there. Now Ive seen Richard use magic to save himself.. epi 2 with the 1st round of crossbow bolts coming at him. He used the sword on the next round.. Welp that's 1 outta 3 that onsets the problem with the Gift. hehe

Thing about Goodkind's writing.... something you read that stood out but you passed it over comes back to bite ya 1 or two books later heh.

Xazy 11-11-2008 02:19 PM

I liked goodkind books the first few then it got to the point where being Richard enabled to him automatically solve the problem in 2 minutes flat at the end of the book, and presto next big problem. I did read the entire series, but just for closure rather then a real desire to read it in the end.

I saw the show, and it really butchered the book badly, had potential and outside of some cleavage the show has nothing of substance.

Gabbyness 01-07-2009 02:22 AM

This show is kind of . . . fail, but, I still watch it.

Anyone still sticking through it? I feel like it won't even make it to the end before they cancel it.

Xazy 01-07-2009 10:48 AM

I forced myself to finish one episode and start a second, time I will never get back.

No, no...

I didn't mean long and daunting, I said long running, meaning so many books in the series.
