American Pop
so, back in the day, like 1981 Ralph Bakshi made this animated movie called "American Pop", and he used a lot of the technique's used in "A Waking Life". Now the movie itself wasn't like the best. rather crappy in facrt, the bland, undetailed animation made the characters hard to distinguish, but i remember it used some great songs (Most notably "Night moves" by Bob Seger and "Don't think twice, it's alright" By Bob Dylan). does anyone else remember this movie, and what did you think of it?

oh.. yeah.. i remember that one.. I'm a Bakshi fan... I loved his stuff, especially Fritz the Cat.
Between Bakshi, Bluth, and Disney I learned alot about animation. |
I never actually saw it, but it's in the previews for some movie I have on tape. It really does look poorly drawn, and I never had any desire to find it.

Yes I have seen the movie. I was bakshi's second to last hurrah, the last one being the lord of the rings. His musical tribute to immigrants, music and the history of our nation told through the eyes of several generations with the dream of musical lives being the factor thats flows through all of them.
Good flick. rent it or DL it. |
I saw the movie, kind of. We watched it in a class I took in college, The History Of Animation, but I fell asleep. It was a four hour class from 7am to 11:30 with a 30 minute break. I remember the music but not too much about the movie.

I remember watching this back in the early/mid eighties on pay cable late at night. Use to love watching this and Heavy Metal.
Can't remember much about it, but wouldn't mind getting it on DVD. |
