City Woman

Loverboy has been begging me to make something artistic for our new apartment for months now. After much consideration I finally decided the other day what to create... I can't show it to you guys as it is not done yet.

I thought it would be fun and interesting for you to watch the progress of my work during a (hopefully!) daily update.

I'm going to make two illustrations for our livingroom; one of me and one of Loverboy standing in front of an anonymous city. The keywords for these creations will be simplicity and elegance.
I'd also like the illustrations to have a 1950 feel to them so I'm going to have to do some research for the clothes we'll be wearing

I'm currently working on the one with me in it and this is what it looks like so far:

Looks really nice but strangly familiar with something, is it the same sort of city layout for the intro of the show fraiser?

Nancy 01-12-2006 08:12 AM

^^ Kind of yes - however I wasn't inspired by the Frasier show. I was inspired by one of my all-time favourite artists Al Hirschfeld.

Fly 01-12-2006 08:35 AM

bring it on girlie.

Nancy 01-13-2006 07:02 AM

Added a few more buildings and a sky. I don't want the background to be too detailed but still it seems to be missing something. Maybe... I should add some trees? :hmm:

cj2112 01-13-2006 07:11 AM

perhaps a clock where you have the circular window in the buildding on the left?

Nancy 01-13-2006 07:21 AM

^^ Hmm... that's not a bad idea. Give me a sec and I'll show you how it looks.. !

Nancy 01-13-2006 07:28 AM

I think the background part looks perfect now - thanks so much for the suggestion, cj! :icare:

Charlatan 01-13-2006 08:04 AM

All it needs is King Kong climbing one of the taller buildings... OK maybe not.

Sweetpea 01-13-2006 08:22 PM

well, that's very neat! :) keep us updated on the progress! :) and of course i want to see it hanging on your wall (with sexy you next to it) when it's done!

you've certainly got a 50s look goin on.
can't wait to see what you do with you & your man.

cj2112 01-17-2006 06:05 PM

yw Nancy :D btw this looks incredible so far you have some serious talent!

Nancy 01-18-2006 02:19 AM

Now that the background part is done, I've started working on my alter ego. This is what I look like so far:

Nancy 01-18-2006 02:20 AM

Thanks all :o :icare:

Charlatan: That's so not gonna happen

Sweetpea: You got it! ;)

troit 01-18-2006 08:58 AM

very nice - keep us updated!

Charlatan 01-19-2006 01:42 PM

OK... no King Kong...

I think it would be cool if you had a little flying saucer in the sky. Doesn't have to be big, but it would add something cool to the piece (it would totally work with the modern 50s look you have going on).

Nancy 01-20-2006 12:40 AM

^^ No I will not add a flying saucer to the background on the final print hehe..though the idea is funny I don't want to add anything to my work that seems out of place. But, because I like you so much, I'm going to add the damn saucer when this piece is done so you can see what it looks like ok? :)

Nancy 01-22-2006 10:15 AM

I know it doesn't seem like it but I've made quite a few changes .. a lot of the lines needed to be perfected. The errors are not visible at this size but they'll look terrible in an A0 size

Daniel_ 01-22-2006 10:18 AM

Very pretty.

Lewis 01-26-2006 09:55 PM

I preferred the bottom by the railroad track, but this is nice.

Hi Nancy! Nice mural. Don't fiddle with it and destroy it with complications. The original energy works!

I think it is a wonderful drawing. I love the shades of blue and I've always been a fan of the stencil like drawings. Will you be painting this afterwards or printing it?

trickyy 01-26-2006 11:48 PM

i'd really like to visit that city

al hirschfeld huh...do you do caricatures as well?

Cheers Nancy! You are the bestest! I can't wait to see it.

Thank you! :D I'll be printing it in an A0 size I think. It would be really cool to paint it directly on my wall but I've promised myself not to get involved in such a big project until I've bought a house :)

Heh, anything for you, Charlatan.

Nancy 01-29-2006 04:36 AM

I've finally found some time to work on my illustration again. I think it's somewhat perfect the way it is - except for the missing eyes/nose of course, so that's what I'm working on right now. Since you can't see the details of the eye in the other picture here's a close-up:

Almost done as you can see. But I'm having unforseen trouble with the last eye. Typical :|

Krycheck 02-13-2006 11:07 AM
