Ok, keep in mind that I never, ever did this before. Not even as a child. So we kept ours basic. Now that I know I can do it, next year we will do something fancier.

Here's the link for how they did it: http://www3.uark.edu/bkst/pumpkin/index.htm

Some awesome looking pumpkins in here. But a pirate? Come on, now. Everyone knows that ninjas are way better than pirates.

Also carved with a steak knife. I re-sized the picture with the intent of using it as my avatar until halloween was over, but never got around to it.

Here are some more photos (finally) of a little carving party my friends and I had, I'm the redhead with the Spiderman shirt. I actually carved Captain Barbossa and The Thing.
All pumpkins are real, even though the one in the foreground looks fake! You have to start them early. My daughter, 4 months. Cute child picture deleted as per rules -- maleficent Lets get going... More carving... The Jammin Pumpkins, The Iron Giant, Hellboy, King Tut, Captain Barbossa, The Thing and Maleficent And a few standard faces. Enjoy!

Just reviving this old topic to brag a bit. I submitted several of my pumpkin carvings to Pumpkin Master's carving contest. I received a letter from them today, and I won a prize! 3rd place in the "faces" category for "Dead Man's Party" (above). The prize is $125. Not bad. Definately more than covers all costs of pumpkins, carving materials and stamps to enter the contest! Who's insane now?
I'm not sure if any other of the designs won or not. The letter didn't specifically say that they didn't, so maybe there are more letters en route... (I can hope, right?)
