Converting GIF to a Vector Format..

I have a logo that was originally saved in GIF format. It is a simple black and white logo that I need to be able to resize and smooth out, due to the jagged edges around the shapes of the letters in the logo.

Is there any tools, Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, The GIMP or Fireworks/Flash that will allow me to convert it to a path or an easily resizable selection that I can fill in later with any chosen colour?

I don't mind taking the time to do it right and tracing around it, but I'm not sure how to even go about it in the first place.

Would anyone care to lend some help?

hey using this tutorial http://www.heathrowe.com/tuts/Export...llustrator.asp should help...you'll need photoshop and illustrator, this should cut your time in half.

That process in the link above rendered a pretty crappy path, if you ask me. It looked nothing like the actual outline of that jumping man. I'd like to think that I have made Illustrator's pen tool my bitch. Doing stuff like that is my specialty. You just have to practice with that pen tool a lot. I could probably do it for you rather quickly, depending on how complex it is. Send me a PM or post the pic here.

Actually, I think that will be a feature of the newest version of Illustrator, CS 2. It has a Pixles to Paths feature that looks incredible.

good point mc...if you can do the whole thing in illustrator, go for it, i was just assuming that it would give him the jist of things, or at least the process on how to do it.

i thought she was MY bitch!!

i agree that just tracing it in illustrator is the best way to go. if you've got got skillz with the pen tool, it shouldn't take too long. all depends on the complexity. post the gif if you want some help.

Try tracing in Flash.
Since GIFs only use 256 colors, set the color threshold to 1.
