Dob's Ill art

Been away drawing on illustrator for weeks. Sorry for not participating for ages. This is the sort of stuff I'm doing.

Let me know whatcha think. :)

dobster 03-30-2005 06:54 PM

The same, but photoshopped a wee bit

Which is best?

spindles 03-30-2005 07:02 PM

I prefer the fuzziness of the second one. I think it makes it look more realistic.

dobster 03-30-2005 07:13 PM

Cheers, Spindles. Its from a photo. Here's the link:

That is damn impressive for Illustrator if you ask me, and I prefer the first one. I really need to open up that program; I have forgotten everything about it because I basically only use Photoshop for everything, even logos and such other things where vector would be necessary, I simply don’t enjoy using it. I really like your lava lamp though, the reflections are impressive and it looked 3d at first glance, your use of the gradient is really nice too.

clavus 03-30-2005 07:57 PM

I like the first one best. Great job on the metalic base.

dobster 03-31-2005 12:20 AM

Thank you guys. Done a bit more to it, now. http://img125.exs.cx/img125/1184/lam...moreselect.png

Looks good dobster!

doodlebird 03-31-2005 12:24 AM

DAMN!!! i've been using Illustrator for 10 years (that's hard for me to believe) and i'm no where near you're level of realism. in fact, i've never even tried. i just stick with the basic flat colors. nice work, dob. can't wait to see what's next.

dobster 03-31-2005 12:31 AM

Thank you all again!! (missed it in here...sigh...) :)

Mister Coaster 04-02-2005 09:10 AM

Quite impressive. What input tools do you use?

dobster 04-02-2005 09:35 AM

oh no, don't get technical!! Uhm, a mouse? Sorry dude, i'm an amateur, really, is that what you meant?

Mister Coaster 04-02-2005 10:19 AM

Yeah, that's what I meant. Some people use light pens and drawing tablets. The fact that you use a mouse makes it that much more impressive. I also use a mouse for my illustrator stuff. I should post some of my stuff. If my free host is still alive I'll do that.

bernadette 04-02-2005 11:33 AM

your artwork doesn't look much different than the photograph!
good job, ace.

dobster 04-04-2005 09:50 AM

'hank you Bernadette and Mister Coaster. Phew! All this encouragement!

Nancy 04-20-2005 03:10 AM

Dobster!

That lava lamp is amazing! You must show me how you did the gold-like effect!

Fanks Nance!

I'd definately help you with that effect. It's dead easy if you like doing the detailed stuff.

Hey watcha mean, GW?

cellophanedeity 04-26-2005 12:45 PM

When I looked at the pic before reading, I thought you just took a photo. I like the second a bit better, I think.

I am impressed to death.

You be too kind! fanks

inhalo 05-03-2005 05:49 AM

Not too shabby. I would suggest working on the color and light in the wall and floor. The lamp itself is very cohesive but the rest makes me want to look away after a quick view. A dramatic and darker wall color might keep the viewers attention on the lamp more. Good work though!

Thanks inhalo! An interesting take. Hadn't even thought of adjusting the wall colour. Will happily fiddle. Letcha know when its done.

That's really nice! I've only been working in illustrator for a few months, but I'm really liking what you're doing and it's inspired me to get back into it! (I've been doing Photoshop exclusively for the past month)

gallopingwanker 05-06-2005 01:26 PM

it's well done and everything, but it's not as impressive as the cassette player, being that it doesn't take as much attention to detail, and precision, but it's good, don't get me wrong

Oh I get you. Yeah its almost possible to consider it a different style in that regard. However, the way it will be displayed will be as a moving gif, with some bubble action which will give it more body. And as suggested by Inhalo, the background will be different aswell. Cheers bro
