Haven't done this since I was 16!

If you see something wrong(other than the entire thing), feel free to point it out-I haven't done a drawing of this sort since I was in high school, but I figured it was time to try again(I think I was better at it then!)
I started out with the basic pencil drawing:

Then, rather than do a wash and finish it off the old fashioned way, I went into trusty old PS7:

The biggest problem I see is the flatness of the buildings in the rear, but I can't seem to give them any details to set them off. Ideas?

Darken them. Light pushes things forward. Darkeness makes things receed.

Anything else?

it needs a cat in it.

You need to blow one of 'em up; make it look war-torn. :-p

Excellent work.....

I recommend some shading of the skyline in back....and perhaps a reference item in front of the back buildings.....another trash can or something.

looking to put maybe an old truck or something toward the back. I had tried to do a shadowy/misty city skyline behind the whole thing ( in marker tracings) but it just did not look right. I started this so I could incorporate some of my own photos(wanted a street scene, but didn't want to use someone else's), but it seems to be taking on a life of its own!

another version-added a couple of things and darkened, shadowed and blended those back buildings a bit more

That looks really awesome ngdawg. Looks right out of a book illustration. I love it :).

Asta!!

That's really cool. I've tried some perspective stuff but never took it to your extreme of awesome-itivity. And I like the kitty in the lower right corner.

There are details you can add to the top of the buildings that will help.

Some I can think of would be chimneys, power/phone lines, water cisterns, roof access stairwells, and vent pipes.

All would be visible to some degree over the roof line.

Oh, and your sidewalk lines receeding would still be parallel to the curb line along the bottom.

But seriously, that is a nice drawing.

wow thats amazing. Looks like a comic book drawing. You should send them in to someone to see what they think. NIce work!
