animosity's music

I have been working on music in FLS for about 15 months now. I know there isnt much music on this forum, but it is original artwork, so...
I am looking to get some critiques from you people because I know you will be honest. My friends always say, "thats good." but I know you people will be honest with me.

I just finished working on Oblivion. The other two are older.
http://www.audiostreet.net/taylored

I have about 30+ songs. These are some of my better ones that I consider finished.

Thanks.

hey! nice soundscapes!

Oblivion does sound the most complete and mature of the 3. Nice crescendo that builds up tension, which is systematicly released in the second part of the song. In my opinion, the crescendo may be even more dramatic, for example: by replacing the standard drum sounds by more industrial sounds, a sledgehamer slamming on an anvil as HiHat, etc. Let it start at the beginning of the song quite far in the background and let it come closer and closer as the tension builds up, to finally let it scream and go in overdrive at the peak. Let it peak for a few seconds, throw open all valves and release the pressure with that beautiful piano outro...
If Oblivion would be the demo press release, I would buy the CD.

Final Night is a good idea, but the song is right in the middle of deciding which way to go: Wil it go to the more darker side, like Oblivion, or should it stay with the more poppy synth feel? Either way has great potential.
Let it lay aside for a while, pick it up again when you have new ideas for it. The song has good ideas, but still needs to ripe a bit more.

Yth: First of all: I like the end! At first it feels a bit abrubt, but then you know it just is. Nice... I like the simplicity of just the harmonics and the repeating in this song, but on the other side are they maybe a bit too flat to just stand on their own... I think this song has to be heared in the context of the other songs. If you just let it hear at someone who never heard the 2 other songs, it fails to bring it's content. On the other hand, if you are familiar with your style, yth really can stand it's man.

I hope to hear more soon!
great work!

The arm with the sword rose up as if newly stretched aloft, and round the figure blew the free winds of heaven.”

Thank you for the feedback. I really have not gotten much from people besides, "that's good"

I do not do lyrics, I have never been good at that.

I am still learning all of this.

Oblivion: I like your ideas on that. I like to think that all of my music is a work in progress. I will definately continue working on it.

Final night: I made this song in Dec 2003. It was my first song over 45 sec. I really was just testing out the program back then. I was using the most basic of intruments. It is a hard song to edit because there is so much detail. I used no looping tracks. It is all on huge track. It is hard to explain to people who do not have FLS.

Yth: This song really needs to be polished, like a lot of my work.

Unfortunelaty I cannot have more than 3 songs on that site at a time. One of these days I will try to get a site set up with all of my works.

Thanks again for your feedback, it is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for posting these, animosity. I use FPS too, so I can almost picture how these were made and how they look in the track viewer.

My main feedback is about "Oblivion". I have some feedback for you, but I'm saying this in the context of: I liked this piece very much. This is more like fine-tuning than "what's wrong with it".

Until about 5:20, when the piano outro starts (which is gorgeous), I really was yearning for some more complex rhythms and melodies. The main theme of the piece ("doo-doo-doo-doo doot doot") is nice, but I wanted more complex descant parts. The first few minutes, every single note is right on the beat, and . I wanted some sort of subtle funky drum to come in and break things up. Without that, you risk it sounding plodding or simplistic.

"Final Night" is extremely clever. Very nice work.

Funny thing is, I was wanting the same thing, but it just wasnt coming to me so I kept going with the simple soft piano. I have a feeling when I have completed this song it may be close to 9 or 10 minutes.

I will definately take into account these suggestions
Thank you.

ratbastid: since you know how FLS is set up, I'll tell you what I did with Final Night. It is kind of funny. I had no idea that one could set up loops in the play list, so I repeated every single note, for every sound file on the same track. It gave me more room to be creative, but it also took me a week to make that song.

That's what I guessed when I saw what you said above. Man... That's like painting a portrait with a toothpick! That'd be a nightmare to edit, even with all the tools FLS gives you.

yea... I can add tracks to it with ease, but as far as editing it... that is a futile task.

I'm going to post a few more songs tonight in place of Yth and Final Night. They wont be approved for a day or so, but feel free to check em out later this week.

Weird, but a good kinda weird. I used to think that the distorted guitar was the ultimate sound in a musical instrument, but recently I've gained an appreciation for the piano. Good job.

I've done some guitar-drum machine-keyboard songs on a four-track, but they're all analog and I've yet to figure out a way to digitalize them.
