Some of My First Attempts at Digital Art
As anyone who's followed much of my art knows, I'm not usually a fan of using the computer to create my art. However, I'm a graphic design major so it's been inevitable that eventually I'd have to adopt the digital realm as a creative output. I've been working in Illustrator a little lately, and these are some of the first things I've actually made with it. Crits (especially on technical aspects and minor things like kerning and color selection) are more than welcome, just don't hurt my pride too much.
A portrait that will eventually become part of a larger image meant to represent the transition from a manual labor society into the industrial and eventually information age (it'll make more sense once I get the rest of it done). Some pieces for an assignment. We were supposed to create a "personal logo" using the pen tool, create outlines (on the text) and the shape tool. It had to include our name and/or initials.

I think you're doing a great job. The main thing to remember is that Photoshop, Illustrator, and every other app on the computer is a tool, no different from learning to use oils, pencils, or watercolor. I know your traditional skills are excellent and as long as you have the knowledge in your head, the tools are irrelevant. The main hump is just overcoming the nuances that that particular tool offers.
It looks like you're well on your way. I'll try to talk one of my friends who works well in vector drawings to post some of his stuff up. |

AquaFox: Yeah, that's Bush. lol It's gonna be a lot more symbollic and ironic once I finish the full piece. I just had an urge to make that picture for some reason.
GoldenOuroboros: Thanks FngKestrel: Thanks for the encouragement. I'd love to see some stuff from some real pros. Any crits you have, be it on my technique or in the creative side of these pieces would be greatly appreciated. I'm less defensive and protective of these pieces since I know they're going to get critiqued all to hell in class anyways.

I have a degree in graphic design so I definately can apreciate the computer medium of art. I definatly like the logo studies the best (namely the letter adaptation in the first one) The posterization of teh bush picture came out pretty well too. Don't know how far along in the program you are but I am curious to see some of your work that includes more bodies of text. Good stuff though!

Zyeox: Thanks! If you're meaning the fact that it seems to be a dedicated display of respect to the President, then you've gotta understand that it's not finished. No offense to the President, but I'm a die-hard liberal, so that will end up being used in a less complimentary way.
If you're referring to the sketchy details, I've already gone back and fixed most of them.

The finished project involving the portrait of Bush makes it turn a classic and positive portrayal of the President into a statement on his policies....
Ev, can you post a copy of that one? It's awesome!
