MoNoXiDe_XXX vs. majik_6

After much behind the scenes talk and deliberation, MoNoXiDe_XXX's great plan has come to fruition!

Basically, we're still setting the finer points of the rules, but unless I get a PM from him, I figure we're doing this using the standard rules of the Versus thread, except with maybe a little more leeway in the amount of time allowed for rebuttals (I work weird hours as a collections agent, and I'm sure that his tattooing has some unusual scheduling requirements as well).

So without further ado, here's the first image in the epic battle of the tattooist and the wanna-be tattooist! :)

Nancy 12-27-2004 10:47 PM

this is going to be a great battle! :D

Say majik_6, you forgot to tell us what MoNoXiDe_XXX is suppose to prevent your smoke from doing. Does he have to put it out or prevent it from burning everything to the grown? waht? :)

FngKestrel 12-27-2004 11:18 PM

That's a great looking cigarette!

Just to give some specifics on dobster and my battle, we've agreed to give each person 5 days to respond to an attack. That's longer than Nancy and Dizzet's 4 day period, to accomodate the craziness of the holidays.

In addition, we've got a rule that the loser needs to draw a final portrait at the end incorporating both players. That's a hold over from Nancy and Dizzet's battle, decided beforehand whether the winner or the loser draws the portrait.

We've also only allowed items that begin with the letter L. That was more of whim and because I'm slightly deranged. :D But dobster must be slightly deranged too because he agreed to it. ;) :D

Anyhow, good start, and it looks like it'll be a cool battle as well.

MoNoXiDe_XXX 12-28-2004 07:24 AM

I think we just decided in an all out brawl.. To the DEATH!!

K-Wise 12-29-2004 03:50 PM

Haha this is starting out really good already.

Asta!!

Dizzet 12-30-2004 09:31 AM

And the loser has to get the picture as a tatoo on the back :)

bernadette 12-30-2004 10:18 AM

this one is definitely gonna be a smokin' hot battle.

That would be kinda cool actually but something tells me that the guys are not up for it.

By the way guys, have you decided which one of you will be doing the loser/winner portrait?

MoNoXiDe_XXX 12-30-2004 06:04 PM

i think that we both should... winner draws loser and vice versa :P

El Kaz 01-01-2005 08:57 PM

Nice start of a battle!
It has a very distinct tattoo feel to it.. nice to see it so distinct from other battles.

Agreed! That's probably the best idea for the portraits.

Sorry for the delay in responding, but I just had a whirlwind trip through several states culminating in getting a Canadian girlfriend!

And as for the previous suggestion of getting some sort of tattoo to commemorate the battle...well, I'm not sure I'd get the hole image, but I'd consider something. :)

MoNoXiDe_XXX 01-05-2005 12:12 PM

Hey... damn you americans :P Leave the canadians in canada!
Yea, and i would pretty much get anything tattooed

 are ya really gonna have a tattoo done?!

Nancy 01-06-2005 11:47 AM

Hey majik_6,

Why is that paper so yellow and how did you make that cigarette? Did you draw it by hand?

K-Wise 01-06-2005 04:03 PM

If he did thats impressive. It looks airbrushed. Real cool

Asta!!

Nancy 01-07-2005 08:45 AM

Perhaps it's both? :hmm:

majik_6 01-07-2005 06:34 PM

It's fully hand drawn, as will be all of my contributions to this thread. :) I may airbrush something (maybe), but it'll all be non-digital. As an homage to the tattoo-style I did it with colored pencils and ink on an 11x14 piece of bristol plate (the standard material for sheets of flash).

As for the yellowish tint, it was too large to scan and the lighting in my house is very yellowish (and I don't have a good photo editor).

Okay, so I've gotten some stuff drawn up, but I'm hesitant to post it because I can t figure out a good way to print out the existing drawings to work on them. I'm computer-dumb, so if someone could explain to me how to print out that image in a big enough size to draw on, I'd be very appreciative. All my attempts are very faint or very blurry.

MoNoXiDe_XXX 01-07-2005 08:21 PM

i save it to whatever and open it in photoshop and print to a full page, and then draw accordingly and scan again to what ever size.

if that makes sense

<--drinkin

FngKestrel 01-08-2005 06:21 PM

Printing out the existing drawing may be a problem unless the image is at 150 to 300 dpi. At 72 dpi, your print out will be pretty small and painful to work on and trying to size up will cause problems.

MoNoXiDe_XXX 01-09-2005 11:35 AM

i just resize it in photoshop

majik_6 01-09-2005 08:00 PM

Finally, after much delay, I have my response!

I ended up having to recruit a techie friend to help me get it printed in a clear manner, but here it is. Let's see you finish that cigarette after a full syringe of HORSE TRANQUILIZER!!! HAHA!

If the file's too small for you to work with, I have MUCH larger versions in .jpg and .tiff formats, just e-mail me (oddlots at gmail.com --obviously take out the spaces and replace "at" with @) or message me on BME or Yahoo and I'll be glad to send you a higher quality copy.

LeviticusMky 01-20-2005 11:03 PM

dobster 01-23-2005 03:44 AM

Lovin the characters coming out of this already! Phatness!

Majik_6, try image shack, as they won't resize your pictures like photobucket. They'll be bigger and easier to see

Zephyr66 01-23-2005 11:02 AM

Just watch, MoNoXiDe's gonna bust out the ointment of doom, I tells ya.

majik_6 01-23-2005 11:02 AM

I actually resized that one with photobucket simply because I forgot to resize it on my computer. :) I've got the Adobe Creative Suite which I usually use when I need to resize stuff, but I had left it entirely too huge, so I just clicked the re-size option and sent MoNoXiDe the full version to work off of.

I'm quite excited to see how he responds.

K-Wise 01-23-2005 10:42 PM

I love this. Yer both tattoo artists right? Love the grimeyness of the drawings. And how they're all rich in color.

Asta!!

majik_6 01-24-2005 06:59 AM

K-Wise: MoNoXiDe does tattoos, but I'm actually still trying to get an apprenticeship with a tattooist. So hopefully soon I'll be joining the sacred ranks. Until then, I'm just gonna sit at my boring, regular job and get jealous of his ability to sling ink. :)

what res. are you printing in?

additionally, before you print it out, try burning it one or two passes in photoshop...that'll keep some of the detail when it's scanned back in. it looks like your printer's either dropping a lot of detail and color, or your scanner's not picking any up.

MoNoXiDe_XXX 01-25-2005 02:55 PM

Thanks neonscreamer.

neonscreamer 01-25-2005 09:07 PM

not a problem.

that's one of the issues that majik_6 ran into, hence my invitation to the board...had to print the first response out for him, and then scan it back in.

Ishmal 02-05-2005 06:06 PM

HaHaHa...

keep up the good work guy...

i'm loving this!!!

K-Wise 02-08-2005 06:25 PM

So is this battle dead now or something? Should Majik6 start drawing a victory picture for Monoxide?

Asta!!

MoNoXiDe_XXX 02-08-2005 11:15 PM

i was just wondering the same, Havent heard much from Majik. But i know he has a pretty hectic time. I believe we have an exteneded time limit on pictures.

Well for starters that's one of the rules of this game. And secondly it puts one's creativity to the test when one has to come up with something quickly.

Agreed. A time limit is just another constraint that artists need to contend with. No different from awkward canvas sizes and picky clients.

Okay you guys win *grumble*

ophelia783 02-10-2005 03:28 PM

Hey all,
The reason for Majik's lateness is due to the fact that he works two jobs, goes to school full-time and is about to move...Thanx for the support, though, he appreciates it!

neonscreamer 02-10-2005 06:28 PM

aye, majik informed me yesterday that he has his reply finished, just needs to scan it. unfortunately with his schedule, that's not as easy as it sounds. he's been using my scanner, and we can hardly make time to set anything solid up in the way of bringing the monstrousity that is this piece of art in.

it'll get there :)

majik_6 02-11-2005 07:24 AM

Sorry for the delay, everyone, but as my wonderful SO and next door neighbor have mentioned, things have been pretty crazy around here. As for the style of the piece, it's traditional tattoo black and gray realism, since it had to be drawn at work (in pencil) and later added to the picture in PhotoshopCS.

So, after much anticipation, I must ask you Sir MoNoXiDe, how frisky might your herpes-biter be after an over-zealous bris from a shaky-handed mohel?! :hmm:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...gdifferent.jpg

I look forward to your reply!

K-Wise 02-11-2005 01:58 PM

CHEAH!

the previous picture of the guy looks like he sees the rabbi coming and is covering himself hah

Ishmal 02-11-2005 05:28 PM

YAY!!!

and the battle continues...

neonscreamer 02-12-2005 11:42 AM

wonderful use of...um...uhh...razors...and mohels.

however, using a mohel has opened up numerous extremely frightening paths for monoxide to take...i wonder which one it'll be!

*sits and stares*

Ishmal 05-15-2005 04:51 PM

so...

what happened here???

ophelia783 05-15-2005 07:23 PM

Hey,
I'm Majik's fiancee, and he moved to a new town a few months ago, and not only does he not have the time lately (working two jobs and being a full-time student), but he's missing the cables to his scanner.

Ishmal 05-15-2005 07:36 PM

o...

i guess that means MoNoXiDe_XXX wins???

as he was the last to post a pic...

ophelia783 05-16-2005 03:21 AM

Nope, because when they began the battle, they declared no time limit, and neither one of them has done what it takes to win; which is either run out of room on the paper, or to draw an image which the competitor can't beat.

Ishmal 05-16-2005 03:15 PM

fair enough then...

GAME ON!!!

LOL.

ariekitten 06-29-2005 08:02 PM

the drawings are awesome you guys! :D

neonscreamer 07-01-2005 06:37 AM

hey ophelia (get back down here and hang!)...tell E to get ahold of me sometime...he can totally use my scanner if needed.

and tell him i said "don't be emo" just for good measure.

kramus 07-04-2005 05:53 PM

This is high-end battle - and the behind the scenes diplomacy, logistics issues and equipment issues gives it a real edge.

Who, or what, will fall like an avalanche of demons out of a bubble of evil? The world waits.

majik_6 08-17-2005 04:23 PM

FINALLY!

After a looong period of fuckin' with my scanner and installing over a gig of ram, I've got my computer fixed to a point where I can share my contribution!

As promised, this image is handdrawn, though I did have to employ a bit of photoshop to clean up the previous drawings and put it all together (the printout was too small and blurry to make a decent drawing.

So MoNoXiDe, how mighty could your flames and drugs be after facing the billowing, icy breath of Old Man Winter?!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...tle-royale.jpg

P.S-MoNoXiDe, I have a much higher quality .psd version of this. Just IM me on here, IAM, or gmail me and I can get it to you.

Ishmal 08-17-2005 04:30 PM

YAY!

i'm glad this battle is continuing!!!

ophelia783 08-17-2005 08:29 PM

So am I....
Baby, your Old Man Winter's awesome!

majik_6 09-08-2005 02:04 PM

Thanks, ophelia!

I'm excited to see what MoNoXiDe comes up with!

ophelia783 09-12-2005 10:40 PM

I wonder where MoNoXiDe is....

Gary_the_Rat 09-15-2005 10:47 AM

An epic battle, surely..

chelsea_9 09-19-2005 03:30 PM

i just spent 1/2 an hour going through all the posts.

AWESOME battle! bravo to you both!

majik_6 09-19-2005 05:10 PM

Thanks, chelsea_9!

I'm sure MoNoXiDe is pretty busy this week, what with a birthday coming up and all, but I'm super psyched to see what he comes up with! (Happy early birthday, man!) :)

Grasshopper Green 09-22-2005 10:23 AM

I just found this thread because I'm rarely in this forum...but these pictures are all fantastic. Good work, and I'll keep checking back for the continuing battle!
