Weekly Activity 8/11 - 14/11 'Draw a Palindrome'

Hey all!

Here's this weeks activity for all you budding artists and those that just have nothing better to do

I'll leave it to FngKestrel to explain the topic because I've got no idea
:hmm:

Have fun all!

A palindrome is a word, phrase, number or any other sequence of units (like a strand of DNA) which has the property of reading the same in either direction (the adjustment of spaces between letters is generally permitted). The word "palindrome" comes from the Greek words palin ("back") and dromos ("racecourse"). Writing literature in palindromes is an example of constrained writing.

The Latin palindrome "Sator Arepo tenet opera rotas" (roughly "The farmer by his labour keeps the wheels to the plough") is remarkable for the fact that it reproduces itself also if one forms a word from the first letters, then the second letters and so forth. Hence it can also be arranged into a square which can be read either horizontally or vertically:

S A T O R
A R E P O
T E N E T
O P E R A
R O T A S

I have no clue what to draw :hmm:

Neither have I. That definition of a Palindrome has just left me even more confused!

In danish:
En af dem der red med fane
is a palindrome, you can read it forward and backwards (spaces are optional)

I'm still searching for a palindrome that you can draw.
Sum summus mus ("I am the mightiest mouse.")
sounds like fun. A mouse in superman costume or something like that

I like this idea. Hopefully I will have time to work on it.

next week: a promotional fight poster for an unlikely boxing match

FngKestrel 11-08-2004 10:38 AM

Yeah, it's a phrase that reads the same forwards and backwards.

Able was I, ere I saw Elba
A man, A plan, a Canal - Panama.

Some of my faves.

Here's a link to a bunch if you're drawing a blank (pun not intended).

Giant: Nice one!

I found this page that has a ton of Palindromes. Anal sex at noon taxes Lana, in particular, is one I wish I had the Mad Skillz to draw. However, This I can manage, even with my two year old kicking my elbow.

This is fun! (I'll post a suggestion later in the week.) Another:

Next week: your very own private hell

clavus 11-08-2004 10:19 PM

Cool, Nefir!

I don't know if this was on the lists, but RATS LIVE ON NO EVIL STAR

next week: whatever the Hell Giant Hamburger suggested

clavus 11-08-2004 10:19 PM

Well this isn't technically a whatchamacallit, but I guess it has the same idea. Rotate it 180 degrees and it looks exactly the same. The first letter is a little sketchy, so I hope you can tell what it's supposed to say

clavus 11-12-2004 03:35 PM

Dammit, todd. Follow the rules! I bet you color outside the lines and mix up your paints too. This forum is no place for creativity. Oh...er...wait, I mean "Nice work, todd".

Tophat665 11-12-2004 05:29 PM

Todd, now that is clever. It's definitely the artistic equivalent of a palindrome (frankly so is a rorschach blot, but that's next level stuff.) Good Show!

FngKestrel 11-12-2004 05:34 PM

It's called an inversion. One of the guys my company's working with right now wrote a book on it.

Yours definitely looks good Todd.
