I found this on a catholic web site:

Scripture, supplemented by Jewish and Christian tradition, suggest that there are nine orders of angels in the hierarchy of heaven:

Seraphim
Cherubim
Throne
Dominations
Principalities
Powers
Archangels
Angels

You could draw five different types of angels. You could look up each type of angel and draw out what you think they might look like. Just a thought

i may infact use that sort of imagery in these drawings....only twist it all to make it something darker and a bit more modern

Looking at your art, a darker spin would definitely be the way to go. They talk about Satan taking several angels with him when he rejected heaven and went to hell. It could be cool to find out which angels he took and draw them. I hope you post what you end up drawing

yeh i definately want to use a darker approach but still keep the very perfectly beautiful style of the pre-raph. artists as well as mix it up with my own style
this will be the first real "series" of work i've done but it should be great...

i will have to post things as i progress....right now i'm working on research and a few sketches that may or may not be used later

I read in a few places Archangel Gabriel was rumored to be the sole "female" archangel. So that in itself might give you some ideas as to how you'd want to portray Gabriel. This was a quick drawing I did a while ago of Gabriel, and because of what I had read, I tried to make Gabriel look ambiguous rather than just choose a gender. Goodluck!
