Doodles
These're just things that my hands do while I'm in class or just bored, but I've had people stop me and public when they see them and tell me they like them. I'm just kind of curious as to what some TFPers think about them.
There're four here, but I have, literally, a full 2.5 inch notebook of these things in every color pen I've ever held during a period of boredom. I know they're far from any kind of real art, but I kind of like them. Anybody else doodle like this? Last edited by TexanAvenger; 10-21-2004 at 07:38 PM.. |

I like em. I like the doodle more, a little more in controll and less psychadelic, but that's just a personal preference.

That last one would make an excellent tattoo

I agree with the comments on the last doodle being the strongest of the four presented. Very nice. I think the two reasons why I feel this was are 1) the image has room to breath on the paper and 2) the unfilled lines are more fitting with the pen.
I can't tell with the top two how they're colored; are they colored in with red and blue pens or markers? Have you tried sketching out the lines and then maybe taking acrylic or oil paint for your color? Granted, in order to do this you'd have to take your work outside the realm of classroom doodling, but I think it could be a very VERY good idea. Also, by working on large sheets of paper and purposefully not using up the whole sheet, perhaps you can break out of the box that IMO detracts from the other three. I think forcing them to be contained within the box represented by the full sheet of paper is almost suffocating the design. Open it up, says I! |

Black and red for me. That would go on my wall and be very large indeed.

exizldelfuego - yeah, I am using pen to color them in. But thanks a lot for the suggestion. I think I'll try that, though outside of class. If nothing else, it'll save me from having to constantly buy new pens as they empty of ink.

This comes down to personal taste. I like symmetry, so in the first and second one, I would have enjoyed them more if all of the lines were of equal width.

Halx, I think I have the opposite taste as you! I actually love assymetry (in art, that is) so the last one intrigues me the most. I can see an illusion of motion in it much more than the others. I doodle in class too, but my doodles are usually just corner-of-the-page type doodles, not full page art!
