R.C. Gorman Woman

Hey guys, this is a piece I made several months ago which I just dredged back up. I'm going to attempt to recreate her on a safety block cut for my printmaking class. But since I was going back through some older stuff, I thought I'd share and see what you think.

What I'm doing here is taking a painting by R.C. Gorman and digitally recreating it. So this is my own rendering of his work.
Here's the original (hoping it's TFP-legal to post the original here):

i'd suggest in whatever program you're doing that in, assuming illustrator...try using the pen tool instead of the brush tool...

I think in general I do tend to get sucked into having fun with the illustrator brushes. Kinda like a photoshop novice getting sucked into filters. I'll eventually work my way though it.

But in this case specifically, I really like how the brush strokes contain the woman. I wouldn't want to change it. Thanks for the suggestion though. At some point, I really want to take a calligraphy class to gain a real understanding of the brush strokes.

i don't agree, i quite like the brush strokes.

one thing i'd suggest is making the gradient on the shirt go from top to bottom, lighter to darker. it'd match the pic a bit more in my opinion.

otherwise, awesome work.

I like it just the way it is. Especially how it doesn't look exactly like the original! I find it boring when a person tries to copy things 100%. It's much better when the artist experiments with the look and the colors like exizldelfuego has done with the broken lines in her hand, the doodled lines crossing the lines of the dress and the brush strokes in her hair.

Great work exizldelfuego!
