Foxy!

I made this fox today as a part of the other water colour job I did a while back as some of you may recall. The two paintings are for my dad at his upcoming birthday party next week...

As the fox looked like as a sketch. I could've drawn all the details in the fur with my pencil but I'd rather practise my skills and produce them with the water colours:

And after the basic colouring it looked like this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...nst/during.jpg

aaaalmost there..:

Voilá! The details in the fur is not quite as good as I'd hoped for but I am getting better at it though:

You might think that this is another painting but no. this is my "palette". I have no idea whether or not any of you guys use such a thing when you paint with water colors but I definitely can't live without it! I find it hard to see how much color there's on the brush so for safety's sake I always test it on this:

:D :D :D

That's very cool, Nancy. How do you plan on presenting these to your dad? Frames? Should make great gifts :D

definitely but I think I'll let him decide on the frames himself. I'll make a fancy black case for the pictures instead so they'll look spectacular until he gets some frames that'll suit them :)

stonegrody 09-10-2004 11:13 AM

I'm sure he'll be very pleased. I always prefer gifts to be thoughtful or handmade as opposed to generic or store bought.

Hello Nancy,

I'm not sure I have said this before but I admire your watercolor skills.
The shades of color from snout to tail are excellent.
I also appreciate seeing the process from start to finish.
My daughter and I do a lot of watercolors but they never turn out like this.

Thanks for the exhibition,
-GH

Very nice, Nancy. He looks right crafty. :D

I always got a lot of bleed-over.
I wish I had your skills.

Keep bringing the good stuff, okay? :)

pinkie 09-10-2004 04:52 PM

Awesome Nancy! You sure do like foxes. :D

Goddag my good Hamburger!

Thank you for the praise.
It is hard to master watercolors but not impossible. I hope you two will keep on practising and therebyl obtain some outstanding skills at some point :)

Wow great work Nancy, love the way you showed us step by step, and your palette is a good idea
:)

I've never done any real drawings, most of my work has been on computer, I think that that's half my problem sometimes >_< heh, oh well
:D

Averett 09-11-2004 12:07 PM

Nancy you're really very talented :)

viejo gringo 09-11-2004 12:21 PM

---and I thought you were JUST beautiful--

you got talent, also..

and, no I don't use a pallete---with a 4 inch brush and a roller it is not needed..L/Y..V

I finally found time to finish the last watercolor piece for my father. It was my plan all along that the gift should include 3 drawings. Here's the last one.. Mr. and Mrs. McPheasant:

Since I don't have a white watercolor I had to draw the white areas with white oil color instead *sigh* Fortunately it turned out great :)

sinhro 09-25-2004 08:57 PM

it's really very beautiful, but i think that it's bad practice to draw with white... you should plan those white spaces and leave them that way... i supose that's the hardest part, never drown anything with watercolors myself ;)
and i like your avatar even better! :)

ARTelevision 09-26-2004 05:07 AM

Love the pheasants...very elegant, Nancy.
The in-process pics in series is a nice way to post.
Thanks!

I've always left those areas that were suppose to be white undone until now but in the case with the pheasants it would've looked way better with actual white water color. The feathers on the pheasants are so colorful that the "white" areas become very faint when they haven't been colored :|

Love the pheasants..very beautiful

thriolith 10-17-2004 09:00 AM

KirStang 10-17-2004 10:23 AM

Wow, very nice work. I think they have a really "dreamy" look to them..:)

I don't have the time to do watercolors either but I make time you know? You really should try and make time as well if you want something to soothe you - water colors are a great stress killer :)

buddhakahn 10-20-2004 10:45 PM

Very nice stuff Nancy!
