Welp, I've done a decent deal of cel shading and was wondering if anyone here does any too?
Here's some of my work:

And here's a site a friend of mine owns. Some of my stuff is in the guest gallery under 94SaturnSL2. I highly recommend you check out his stuff. His cel shades look great!

Cel Shading

bernadette 03-14-2004 07:14 PM

i've never heard of cel shading.

how do you do it? what application do you use to do it?

animosity 03-14-2004 07:54 PM

woa.. thats some good cell shading there...

sadistikdreams 03-14-2004 08:36 PM

I personally use flash, i don't know what CrazySaturn uses?

gallopingwanker 03-14-2004 08:57 PM

if i do cell shading, i just turn it on in the render options in cinema 4d...

hu-man 03-15-2004 12:57 AM

I first thought that you were a 3Dsmax wizard... those are some really nice models... but they're from pictures, right?
It still looks really really cool nonetheless. I'd love to see some people cel-shaded, maybe cut into a bigger picture of Times Square or whatever... that would look cool!

CrazySaturn 03-15-2004 10:45 AM

Bernadette, I use PS7. It's prolly the best version if you plan on cel shading.
Yeah, they're all from pictures. I would love being able just to draw cars though.

i only heard of cel shading with video games, and those games always look really awesome. i'm a bit confused too on how this process works. are these vectorized and flat, or are they in a 3d space?

CrazySaturn 03-15-2004 01:14 PM

Flat. Basically you outline all major body lines in black, or any deep color differences if you choose, then fill in areas with their general colors. Ends up looks very cool and stylized, I love it since it really gives the pictures a new personality and surrealism.

analinguist 03-15-2004 02:03 PM

oh, i gotcha...my old roommate used to do that all the time. he did some pretty crazy stuff. the only thing that i would say that is not very cool about it, is that everyone who does it..their work always looks very similar. why don't you guys just use streamline? doesn't it do a very similar thing to what you are doing, but takes 1 second to do? then you can just tweak lines and draw your general outlines? flash also does it.

gallopingwanker 03-15-2004 06:22 PM

flash's trace bitmap owns streamline.

jujueye 03-17-2004 04:41 PM

I really like the last one. They all look great.

runawayfetus 03-17-2004 07:04 PM

woww thats really good. I wish i could do that. I just picked up the game thirteen, and its cell shaded. Its really fun and interesting, and i wish i was able to do that. just a matter of getting off my ass and learning how i guess

MadHatder 03-18-2004 11:35 AM

Wow, that looks really nice. I think I'm going to try and do some of my own tommorow ^_^. Thanks for the link too.

lemming104 03-21-2004 06:13 PM

I was wondering how the heck I wound up with a double-digit number of guests on my site. :) Guess this explains it. :D

Bleed Me Dry 03-23-2004 05:10 PM

That shows some great talent. It looks really good.
