"Drawing programs such as Adobe Illustrator® create vector graphics, made of lines and curves defined by mathematical objects called vectors. Vectors describe graphics according to their geometric characteristics."
Photoshop doesn't use vectors, it uses "paths" which are basically the same as vectors. I prefer Microsoft Image Composer (comes with FrontPage) when using vectors because it's a much simpler program.
