100 days (a participatory intermedia project)
somehow i found out about this. i say somehow because there are periods during which i think things like there are only memos so that there are things i am the last to get and only information so that there are things i am the last to know about.
anyway. this is sorta like nanowrimo (national write a novel in a month) except (a) intermedia---so writers and visual artists of all kinds and maybe some audio (not sure) and (b) no word limits. and it's more interactive. here's the main site for the project: http://onehundreddays.net/?p=203 this brings you to a directory for all the participants 100 Days 2011 which is possible because one of the rules of the game is that you start a blog dedicated to the project so these interlinks can happen and so that it's easier to track where you are. i like tumblr. it's very simple. there are lots of layout templates and/or looks you can play with. it's flexible. and it encourages reblogging, which i kinda like (even as it represents a loss of control of the material sort of. reblogging links back to the original, though, so it's kinda footnoted.) my page is here: Edge Effects to differentiate it from my other page, i'm working with the notion of edge effect for these pieces....at this point it's still (a bit uncomfortably) a metaphor. i am interested in making it more a constraint. i have a couple ideas, but we'll see how they work out. it's not to late to start participate. if you're looking for a structure to push yourself into making a bunch of work in any medium (it's really really not just about writing) then go for it. folk who participate communicate via twitter and/or by using each other's work as points of departure. which is cool. if folk here want to do the project for themselves, maybe we can use this thread as well. it's pretty open until you get a project started. and its a structure without pressure. post something if you decide to play along.

Not sure I'll participate, but I'll possibly hang around the edges seeing what's what.
*rimshot I really like this bit you posted. It articulates the inchoate for me. ................. "An edge is an irregular zone that comes into being between environments. It is not a line. Edge effects are the phenomena that inhabit edges and the ways in which they do so. They and their worlds are not predictable from within the rules specific to the environments to either side. They are their own and in-between. If language is a system a sequence is an environment. If language is a system we are all edge effects. Everything that happens is an edge effect."

thanks kramus. i made that as a way of outlining what an edge effect is so i could start moving in a particular direction with it. i think things are hanging together so far. hard to say of course.
i took a drive with my nephew max after lunch at a brewery for his 21st birthday. turned out that the eastern-most section of cape ann was fogged in. it was a lovely early summer evening in convertible season. we stopped at a granite pier that goes a considerable distance into the water, which you could hear far below but not really see for the white of the fog. a bit later, we stopped in an industrial ruin and wandered about. i took some photographs and decided to use some of them. not sure if that counts as a turn. i should interact with stuff that other folk are making but so far haven't found anything that makes me feel as though i should use it. so far so good maybe. have a look if you like: Edge Effects feedback/commentary/constraints/suggestions/obstacles all welcome.
