Post Yer Punkins 08
For the first time, I got some shots of the pumpkins actually out on display.
#1 Sorcerer's Apprentice. Carved over a week ago, and it had been left out, dried out, soaked to revive, in the fridge for 5 days, and finally displayed. http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/6...orcererde3.jpg Next up, Kitty Kin... This was carved a week ago and was in the beer fridge ever since, it was in the back and the back side of it was frozen! Oh well, the carving looked good. Also, it had one very over-achiever candle in it. http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/4...ittykinsd7.jpg Now for the rest, all carved on Halloween day, starting about 9:30, finished about 5:30. http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/2236/netsmaugbl2.jpg http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/7...twofacewt2.jpg http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/9...arecrowrp8.jpg http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/5...cekittyii3.jpg http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/8376/netmortalzd8.jpg My wife did the Kermit one... http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/6...tkermitzk7.jpg http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/7117/netjokerrs6.jpg http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/7...stridertn9.jpg http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/2...ckporchpw9.jpg http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/772...ontyardia1.jpg Still not many kids in the neighborhood, but steadily increasing every year. |

Ch'i gets credit for this one. I bought the kerosene, though. |

the carving was nothing special - except the theme my Lady came up with when she did the bottom-most pumpkin. Her children, burning in eternal flames. How seasonal  The presentation is what made the pumpkins stand out, framed by burning tiki torches and set off with a strand of pumpkin lights on the lawn. My Lady continually impresses :)
edited to give kudos to Mr. Coaster for the beautiful pumpkins. I love the Jack in the field! Hey, Will - are you able to get the flames to last? That would be a wonderful thing to set alight on our driveway if it would burn for 2-3 hours. |
I soak a few rolls of toilet paper in kerosene overnight. Each roll lasts from 45 minutes to an hour. If you've soaked it thoroughly enough, you can easily get 6' flames. A paper towel roll can pass 10', but that tends to scare parents.

Love your pumpkins, Coaster!
http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...elust/vote.jpg I did the face, my partner did the VOTE. The last time I carved anything was '04. This was fun. |
Wow.... some of these are really good. Calgary sold out of pumpkins earlier than expected this year and it killed me because I like carving the day of Hallowe'en.

Wow, some really awesome pumpkins out there.

Hey, Will, do you unroll the toilet paper, or just set fire to the whole thing? |
Thanks for the compliments on my carvings.
As for the flaming 'kin, you see a demo on that at ExtremePumpkins.com - Extreme Pumpkin Carving |
Jesus .. I wish I had this kind of talent ...
