Video Art - Music Videos
Some music video's are true works of art. The amount of creativity, imagination and thought that is put into some of these 3-4 min videos is astounding.
In that spirit, I decided to open this thread in Tilted Artwork, for us to share music videos that are works of art in their own right. I believe there already was a thread that went along these lines in Tilted Music, but instead of the videos in this thread being just different or out of the ordinary, I would like them to be mainly concerned with the visual aesthetics of the moving image. To start things off, I have come across a great music video for Radiohead, that is quite innovative in terms of film and video. It was made for the song "House of Cards" and it uses no real cameras or lighting. Instead, 3D plotting technologies were used to gather information about the position and shape of the elements in the scenes captured. The entire video was created from this data. The director is James Frost. Below is the video, and after it is a making of. Feel free to critique the videos as well, and share some of the music videos you think are art gems in their own right. This is really interesting. I love how Radiohead is using new technology for their video. They have always been a very innovative band, IMO. I would post some links except I'm not sure how to embed videos on posts. Another that I can think of that is innovative is Coldplay's Viva La Vida. I'm not sure how they did the photoshop filter look. But this is coming from someone who is completely clueless about video.
I'm more into conceptual art/music videos. Smashing Pumpkins and Bjork are good ones that come to mind.

Here is Coldplay's "Viva La Vida"
To embed, do the following (with no spaces): [youtube ]dvgZkm1xWPE[ /youtube] You can find the code to insert contained within the share link of the video after v= Personally I don't find this Coldplay video to be their best, or particularly focused on the video work as art. I prefer "Don't Panic" as video art goes:

It has been ages since I last posted in here, but maybe it's time.
Here is a Björk video I came across that is pretty creative, for the song 'Innocence'. The best thing about it is that it was chosen from a competition for the video, out of 500 entrants. Here is a treat - this link takes you to the 9 runners up for the same song: Runners Up

This post is a placeholder for me to come back when I'm not mobile.. Working in video everyday makes me appreciate these videos even more.
There are some really great art pieces out there.. And even the seemingly "cookie cutter" videos take a lot of time to develop properly. |

I recently featured this music video elsewhere, but I think it fits the billing nicely here as well (among other places I'm pondering to share it): Symphonie Diagonale
As a little sidenote: I don't mean to be a stickler sally, but I thought the creativity forums were a network for sharing our own individually and originally-produced pieces. I do understand that if it were to be moved to either Entertainment or Music, it would most probably stagnate, and/or fall under the weight of the countless other "similar-in-theme" threads that have been/will be featured there. I do like the thread's premise, but it kinda makes me tilt my head to realize we are showcasing "artwork" that we had no hand in creating (though that we are marketing it does help us "individualize" it in some manner).

Shins-Pink Bullets
all hand animated Still Run by BrotherSister Still Run on Vimeo pretty simple to achieve the effects but still very well done. Linkin Park- New Divide hate the song but the Trapcode Form work is phenomenal. Tons of time involved in this video. |
