Two Portraits
I have been SUPER slacking with the artwork, but these are the last two I've done.. I just never feel like drawing anymore!
I drew this one for my brother for Christmas, Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday: And months later, this was a commission for a coworker: I haven't drawn ANYTHING since May 2007.. I need some motivation!

Wow, those are amazingly real!
How long does one of those typically take you to do?

Thanks!
Not that long actually. If I put my mind to it and really put in the work, only a couple days. The 2nd one took me weeeeks because I just didn't want to do it!

Thanks everyone for your comments. Boy I wished I liked drawing! It's a good money maker too, and when I was selling, it seemed effortless to rake in a couple hundred bucks. Now it just feels like a chore to draw, and it's a shame..

Darkangel, i know what you mean.
I use to draw all the time in high school, then went to college for graphic design so i could make a decent living at art. Spent the whole first year drawing more then started my graphic design classes and the drawing got less over the next 3 years. Then work. Now my free time is taken up with my new passion, photography. So i just don't have the time or the gumption to draw/paint anymore. Every time I see cool artwork i get inspired, but when it comes down to it, not inspired enough i guess because I never follow through. If I really liked doing it still, I would make time. For a while I was taking some classes so it would force me to paint. Oh well, maybe when i'm old and gray and retired. Great work btw. |

Yup that's exactly how I feel, except I have no passion at the moment.. I've been struggling to get out of depression for a long time now, and while I have gotten a load better just from working out, the urge to draw hasn't come back yet. The thought of drawing now makes me groan like it's a chore. I just turned down a commission a couple minutes ago for a massive 7 person + a car portrait, wow! That makes a total of 3 jobs that I've had to turn down because of this. That's right, I'm turning down hundreds of dollars
I'm still hoping that one day the funk will go away and I'll be whipping out drawings again..It would be cool to make a living at it if I liked it!

This is awesome! great job. I never did learn how to draw people and make it look good. I can draw cartoons and complex technical designs and stuff but when it comes down to stuff like this, I just can't do it. You have an awesome talent!

Just because you are good at something, doesn't mean you will like it. Or like it forever.
I'm pretty good at graphic design but it is becoming more and more boring to me. You probably even have something in your fridge or pantry that I've done graphics for. But I'm over that thrill. I keep doing it because I'm very comfortable at my job and it pays very well. |
