Tilted Comic Project
I'm not going to kid myself or spend hours trying to pretend like I have any talent. I cannot draw. I wish I could, but I simply can't. There have been many times where I wished that I could draw, but the fact of the matter is, I make xkcd look like it was drawn by Luis Royo.
One of the things I've always wished that I could do was draw a web comic. I know that you don't need to be an artist to do this, but certain kinds of humor requires varying degrees of drawing skill to portray it. xkcd works, for example, because the jokes are mainly delivered through the writing. It you take Perry Bible Fellowship, on the other hand, it is a comic that delivers its punchlines with the concepts it presents through pictures. Thus, it relies on artistic ability to make it funny. I've tried to get the artistically inclined people in my life to help me out before. You know; I write, they draw. Well, its either the sob story of not having the confidence to do it or they just don't connect with someone ELSE's idea. Essentially, its a proposal for collaboration. So, the idea for this thread came to me as I thought up yet another 3-panel comic that will never get created because there is nobody to illustrate it. THE POINT OF THIS: Similar to the weekly project themes, we should give artist a shot at drawing comic strips. The writing will be done by suggestion, and artists can give their shot at adapting the comic in their own form. Here's the comic I had thought up just now: Panel 1: Character is reeling back to sneeze BIG. Panel 2: Character is mid-sneeze, with something flying out of his nose. Panel 3: A brain is sliding along the floor. There isn't really a punchline... its not even very hilarious... but its just something that I felt needed to be illustrated. And that's what's funny.. sorta.. |
I'm in. You can check out my Deviant Art page... My handle there is Mister-JP
I cannot tell you, or even hint that it will look like Royo's work, but I think I can do something worthwhile for the web. I won't have time until tues or wed of next week, but I'll watch the topic. |

I'm more of a realist, so cartoons don't come easy for me, but here is a 5 minute sketch.

Jeez, frogza, that's awesome. Cartoons are impossible for me.
|
Hah! Nice! Great work. Does anybody else want to try it out or should someone post another idea?
|
I'd just like to point out that you can draw like shit and still make a funny comic

I can't even do that.

My dorky take on the idea.
Thinking outside the box a little..... http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/g...3a98891ffd.jpg Hey, I never said it'd be funny. P.S. Sorry about the crappy camera phone pic. I don't have a scanner. P.S.S. Cyanide and Happiness is the funniest comic strip ever. I read daily. Edit: I also wanted to say I really like the idea of this thread. Start throwing out more ideas. |

There are skills inside you. Perhaps you need to cut them out of their hiding place. |
Just for fun....

Sorry if my caricature is not very flattering Halx. I'm not the best of artists. |
Well I'm laughing. I like how I have my hand up GH's ass. He looks surprised.
|
I was going for scary, but surprised works. Ha.
|
I like the knowing expression on Halx's face as his glance invites the viewer into an intimate portrait of daily life in our ongoing electronic union.

Thanks for the compliments. Sometimes I wish I was better at cartoons. This is a little more my pace.

Nice work Frogza but there needs to be an exposed brain in there somewhere.

Sorry, I had a much busier week than I expected. I'm away from my computer for the next few days. I do want to contribute here, but I got no free time... rather, if I do have 30 free minutes, all I want to do is take a nap.
