Two more paintings

I have a third in the works and some charcoal sketches to photograph, as well. I'm finally back in the artsy fartsy groove.

Both are acrylics on canvas panel.

I think I'm calling this one "Harmony."

And this one.. I'm not sure. I just wanted to finish it. "Identity" perhaps?

Comments/criticisms/suggestions welcome!

Very interesting. I could get lost in either one of these.

G5_Todd: Thanks! I appreciate it.

jewels443: Thank you. I tend to focus on the details of my paintings rather than the big picture, then I step back and often surprise myself.

I really like the dark rigid / white flowing aspect of the first one. Body / mind.

...

And you know I'm a sucker for hand prints.

Crompsin: I also know that you're great. Thanks.

Barstool: Thanks! I appreciate it. I get lost in the details when I'm painting, then the big picture comes together when I step back.

That layered interleaved hooking you did on the first one, with the gradiated background to give it more dynamic life is pretty cool. The second one is very confident.
I have always been told to be careful of overly symmetric or centred compositions, so if you do a series of the second perhaps you could find ways of offsetting the hand field. Maybe adjusting it's perimeter to be more fluid, and responsive to the hand shape. I could see using hand position and fluid boundaries to play with the energy within the entire composition. My 2 cents

Kramus, once again.. thanks! I appreciate your two cents, I actually have a lot of canvas board waiting to be gessoed and painted, so ideas are always appreciated.

I've sort of always had a thing for symmetry, though I think some of my best work is asymmetrical. I honestly don't usually think out my images ahead of time, they come together as I point them. The second painting originally was totally different, but I decided to paint over it in blue (letting the dot spirals show through) and figure out the rest. Perhaps I should work on creating an image deliberately rather than organically.

I used to always sketch and plan out paintings. They are still unfinished and I wasn't happy with them.

Recently, I've just started squirting paint and brushing it all helter-skelter and I like the outcomes better.

I think creativity is the journey of creating a piece of art. Structure can stifle that.

Anyway, I really like these 2 paintings. I enjoy the contrasting work in the first one and the spirals in the second. The hand print is also an interesting addition.

They're lovely! I really enjoy the light in the 2nd one-- it feels like the whole painting is going to open up from that point.
