This cake is getting more views than some naked people around here.
What the hell is up with that? It is a nice cake, though. I'd be afraid to eat it.

that's great.
it reminds me of a stack of decorated tablas. which is also excellent. as for whether it's art: i dont see why there's even a question. in general, art is whatever you say it is. so even if this wasnt a spectacularly lovely object, it'd still be art. but it is a spectacularly lovely object and so requires no particular effort to be seen that way. this is art. it is made of cake. or: it is sculpture and the medium is pastry. seriously, its all a matter of claims about what you do and where you choose to show it. doing a gallery show would be interesting, especially if you have a closing that featured all those in attendance getting to eat the show.

Cakes are primarily (or essentially) for eating. What makes this art is the very idea that it calls the idea of cake into question. It leads us to a discussion of not just this cake but our very concept of what a cake should or should not be, or what a cake should or should not do. [Edit: I think the cake is incredible, but I would eat it.]

I was speaking theoretically; if it were a cake.

I've always hated this type of cake personally. they look like something gone bad wrong that someone was smart enough to make look like it was supposed to be that way.
but hey - everyone has to have an opinion, right? doesn't mean that the work shown above isn't spectaular to some people. ***NOTE*** this is NOT a slam on the cake shown above or the artist that crafted it. I'm certain she has other work that i would LOVE. I just dont go for this PARTICULAR style. thats just me - its not that she isnt a great "artist" in her medium. |

I can barely make betty crocker cupcakes and get those frosted - that is very cool... and looks time consuming...
Are you the heir apparant to Ace of Cakes? how long does one of those creations take to do? do you design on paper first or just go with the creative muse?

Well...I, for one, think that Theodor Geisel would be proud as can be.
Too bad that it's made of styrofoam, though. It looked yummy. On the other hand...I've had cake that tasted like it was made of styrofoam before.

That is a mighty fine looking professional piece of artwork there. It would be cool to see your portfolio (nudge-nudge).

You certainly have a talent - hopefully you are making money for yourself because I know people in NYC that would pay $$$ for cakes that look like that!
