Interview Test- Visually Explain Crosstalk
A prospective job was asking applicant to visually explain what happens during "network crosstalk" without using text.
The 2 difficult things I had with this was doing 3D with Flash and finding a corny soundtrack. <object width="550" height="400"> <param name="movie" value="Crosstalk.swf"> <embed src="http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m214/bushwhip/Crosstalk.swf " width="550" height="400"> </embed> </object>

Thats awesome!
I'm not really exactly sure what network crosstalk is, but isnt it just computers in a network sharing info? If it is, then im not quite sure why the 2 computers only talk to each other, instead of all 4 all connected sending info back inforth. .-. lxl ._. periods = computers x and lines are messages going back in forth. Can you explain network crosstalk to me using words? |

that's pretty great but I'm not sure why the soundtrack has to be corny...it could be a little less corny I think, I'd prefer something more up to date. But a great job all the same!

I have to admit I am not a networking person. I find myself to be at a medium level of understanding with hardware. With technology there are so many directions one can go, and for me I want to know them all. The problem is there is not enough time in the day. So being a multimedia person myself, this definition may not be the best. Crosstalk is where two networking cables between two different networks (reasons for not having them all networked??) cross or come to close together and cause errors to occur. Why this company picked this scenario I don’t know. They are an interactive media design agency. Quote:
I'm searching right now for a piece of music to accompany a splash page presentation for an agency that consults for group homes. The client wants it to have a new age Enya type sound. She didnt understand you just cant take one of Enya's songs tack it to an online presentation for a company that may profit from the adverstising. So now I am on a hunt to find the right piece that will be affordable to by, or create my own. I know my way around fruity loops, acid pro, sound forge, and others but not up to the standard I know it has to be.

That's absolutely awesome. Having taken Computer Networks last semester and covering crosstalk, that illustrates it perfectly.
The only criticism I have is that it seems to glitch for a second as you move up from the pipe..?

That’s really good; and corny too. One suggestion is an on/off switch for the music
Cross talk is a magnetic field, generated by one wire impacting the data integrity of a second wire in near proximity. As you pass current through a conductor, a magnetic field is formed, when this field get near another conductor, it induces an electric current in this second conductor, changing the signal in the wire. So if you get to wires to close together and not properly shielded, the signal on one will impact and change the other, and vise versa.

for what it's worth,
i had no idea what crosstalk was, but from watching your video, i was able to figure it out. and i think the music has a certain "VHS instructional video" quality. not necessarily a good thing, but it does fit. it might be made more unique/modern by adding music (as tippler mentioned) more up to date. ...i'm imagining a radiohead-ish mash of computer generated beats & tunes with a new, perhaps discordant track at the time of crosstalk. but it sounds like the assignment is finished, and these suggestions will go nowhere... the visuals are perfect. nice work.
