makeup
how many of you wear it religiously? :suave:
and how much of it? :hmm: how many don;t wear any at all? how dependent are we on makeup? :| |
hm, I like makeup.
wearing it, and shopping for it. I don't wear it all the time ... on workdays i just throw on some foundation and mascara, maybe a mono eyeshadow, and some tinted lip balm. going out with my bf, if I'm not feeling lazy I'll go a bit more elaborate with the eyes. and when i really wanna sex it up, i'll put on some red lipstick. I treated myself to a tube of Chanel's Vamp a couple weeks ago, and I must say, that shit is amazing, for women who can pull off blood-red lips. 'dependent' on it ... who the fuck cares? I sure don't. :D |
On the days that I go to work, I wear just the basics. Eyeliner, foundation and blush. Oh, and lipstick, when I remember.
Days home, none if I am not going anywhere. If I go shopping, just eyeliner. I am not dependent on it, I don't go crazy shopping for it, and I like to keep it simple. |
I used to do the whole makeup thing....foundation, powder, eyeliner/shadow, mascara, lipliner, and lipstick....it took too long and frankly, I looked better without all of it. I usually just wear blush, mascara, and tinted lip gloss now, unless I'm going out with friends or family. I often go to work without makeup, although I do try to wear blush at least, just because I look kind of pale and washed out without it.
|
When I was to feel all glam I put on shimmery eyeshadow and lipgloss. Usually I think putting on makeup just takes too much time. I have never been able to put on eyeliner so I say screw it. Day to day, I don't wear anything at all.
|
Mascara is a definite "do" for me to step out the door and feel, at the very least, "proper." I feel like I look better with mascara on, and (call me old fashioned) I adhere to the adage my mother passed on to me about looking your best for your husband no matter if you're cleaning house or going to the Academey Awards.
I put on eyeliner and shadow to play things up a bit, but usually if I go that far I add in the foundation, powder, and blush. Sometimes I totally sex it up for Martel's sake, when we go out, just to have a little bit of fun :) |
Sage, I agree with the looking your best whether you're cleaning or out ect..
obviously not to its extreme, but even if I have to go out and do some groceries, i'll still wear some blush and some eyeliner.. Otherwise, I'll always wear a bit of foundation, blush, eyeliner and mascara |
I can't say that I don't wear it at all, but it's pretty close.
Don't particularly like makeup. Only get in the mood to wear it every now and again. I have shown up at semi-formal events without makeup. Guess what: no one notices or cares. When I do wear makeup - almost no one notices or cares. So it's all for me. I have relatively clear skin, long eyelashes, and features (eyebrows, lips) that stand out just right without adding the annoyance of makeup. |
I enjoy playing with makeup in that I think it's really interesting how one can change one's appearance with the effects of shadows, light, and colors. I tend to do a lot of stage-type makeup, as I am a performer, part-time. Since it's a big part of my hobby, I've learned *a lot* about it, and have fun with it while trying to not spend too much time and money(!) on it. I already have more than I'll ever use up.
On a regular daily (work day) basis, I wear it all, but lightly and w/ very fast application time. If anyone has makeup questions, feel free to ask me. :) Oh, and I recommend MAC across the board, for everything. |
on a daily basis, i wear none. I am however required to wear it for work (it was in my contract...) and now that i tend to do it at work, i enjoy it once in awhile. however, i own none of my own (save lipgloss and mascara) and i really wish i did now for night i go out and what not.

Liquid foundation to tone out my pink skin, some eyeliner and sometimes, eyebrow powder. I HATE lipstick-never wear it, but I do have flavored, vitamin enhanced gloss, but even that lasts forever as I don't use it much.
Eyes are the one thing I won't even go to the grocery without doing-my glasses make them look half their natural size. Spouse used to work for Revlon and would bring home all kinds of things and I'd end up throwing most of it out or trying to give it away. |
I don't usually wear makeup since I have really clear skin and for some weird reason my eyelids are a different shade than the rest of my skin so it usually looks like I have eyeshadow on. Sometimes I'll add some powder to take off the shine, some eyeliner and some tinted lipgloss. Usually though, I find it's a tremendous pain in the ass because not only do you have to put it on, you also have to do upkeep. What a headache! But I must admit that when I do wear makeup I usually get more complements than without.
|
I look so much better with makeup than without. I should wear it everyday to even out my skin tone and just look better since I do work in an office.
But I don't. I'm not much for the makeup. Occasionally I'll wear it if I have time and feel like it (read almost never). I will for special occasions. I like how it looks but I don't know how to apply some of it like eyeliner so I don't try too often. When I do it looks terrible. If I knew how to apply makeup in a fast effective way, I would do it everyday. Anyone wanna teach me? |
I am allergic to every single makeup item I've tried except four. Almay mascara and The Body Shop pencil eyeliner (still makes the eyes bloodshot after about 6 hours). Rimmel lip gloss. Hemp lip repair from The Body Shop. Everything else creates a Halloween effect. Complete with puffy eyelids, swollen and cracked lips, blotchy skin and even hives at times. It's a nice excuse to keep my morning routine to a minimum, so I don't mind all that much.

Have you ever seen people at the make up counters that just go Oooh that's pretty and smear it on the base of your thumb just to see what it would look like against skin..yeah I'm one of those..I love shopping for the stuff, but I don't really use much of it. I enjoy the creative aspect of it.
I dont really wear any to school or if I go to the market, but I do wear a little bit to work. It's nothing dramatic, just something that makes me look a little older hahaha. I step it up a notch if I go out at night just cause I like how make up looks in the evening..and how it just illuminates/accentuates the face.... |
Often I don't have time to put on make-up, but when I do it on a daily basis, it's at least 2 of the following:
* blush (a little) * eyeliner (in the last two years, have really gotten into doing this daily; helps me look older and feel more sexy) * lip-stuff (usually chapstick, but occasionally lipstick because I feel my lips are so bland and colorless without anything on them) and when I go out, then I really put on the lipstick and throw in some mascara, too. I have sort of given up on powder... and I never got into foundation. I like my skin the way it is, actually. |
I drink a lot of water, I cleanse and moisturize like it was a religion. I generally go with just concealer and tinted mositurizer, I'll add eyeliner and a natural toned lip gloss for work. Less is more and glowing healthy skin looks better imho than plastering on a lot of makeup trying to disguise an aging face .

On a normal average day if I'm jsut going to class then it's usually nothing, or jsut some mascara and lip gloss only. When I have to be dressed up for a performance or going out I just add some blush, eyeliner, and shadow. When I feel like looking extra hot for any reason then I mostly play up the eyes with really dark liner and like two shades of shadow or just pure black. I almost never wear lipstick, I can't stand the stuff and I don't think it works on me anyway. Gloss is always more than enough. But generally speaking I don't wear much makeup at all unless I have a special occasion or feel like looking a little more spicy than usual. :p
|
If it's summer and I intend on going outside, I wear some form of sunscreen. On a regular day, nothing except maybe a fruity lip balm if lips are chapping. On a day where I want/need to look fancier, then some mascara and a coloured gloss. On a day where I want to look a bit more aggressive, I wear black eyeliner on my bottom lid and mascara. I don't own blush or powder or foundation, and have only a couple of eyeshadows that are hand-me-downs from mum. I suck at putting on makeup, and it makes me itchy.
Anyway, I'm plenty pretty without it. ;) |

On a daily basis, as part of getting up and around in the morning, whether I'm going out or staying in. In order: concealer liquid foundation blush setting powder eyeliner eye shadow (subtle earth tones) mascara eyebrow pencil lipliner long lasting lip color (daily wear) lip gloss (dressy evenings) I try to go for a subtle, understated look for everyday stuff, and really don't go overboard even when doing it up fancy, though I will switch to brighter color for my lips and eyes. intereting responses :)
like someone said, I also enjoy the creative aspect of playing with colours and seeing the different effect sthey have on you. I put on makeup depending on my mood. If i'm in a more agressive mood, I'll wear lipstick. if not i'll stick with some softer shades of eyeshadow ect... it's fun :P |
i used to never wear any but a year ago start wearing foundation , powder and blushes at work
and if i go out with baby for short period of time nothing usually dont wear any when day off so let my face have a rest. but i start getting dependent on it cos dark cicle really bother me and i look terrible without foundation or powder i dont really put marscara cos my eye lashes too short :P |
i have another question..
can you guys recommend a moisturizer for the face that is rich and creamy, and that won;t irritate? I don;t want to spend a lot...something reasonable..my skin is normal to dry, and i find it loses a lot of moisture in the winter now...any suggestions? :) |
Foundation-power-blush-eyeliner-eyeshadow-mascara.
Takes me 10 minutes, everyday. For moisturizer I'd recommend anything you wear overnight. It's thick, creamy and when you wake up in the morning your face is freshly moisturized but not greasy. I usually use Olay. |
I love this thread!!! So I wear it everyday. Religiously! So lets see. . . I wear
-foundation - to even out skin tones! -blush - bring out the cheek bones -eyeliner - shape the eyes....enlarge size -mascara - lifts the eyes -scotts kisses - to make my lips shine -oh and not to mention lip gloss ^^ -eye shadow How much do we depend on makeup?? I think that is really different from person to person. I personally feel like it's fun to wear it. I watched a show once where women were so dependant on it, they refused to let anyone see them without it.....even their husbands. So, I guess some of us can feel our value goes down when the amount of makeup goes down. Its too bad for them. |
Anyone who knows about my shopaholic tendencies, my addiction to shoes, and have seen my pictures, will not be surprised that I love make-up. I wear it everyday. I used to not weat much makeup when I was going throuhg my depression and had a low self-esteem, but in the past couple of years, I wear it everyday. I don't do foundation, that's too cakey. I can't wear the drug store makeup (except on the eyes) because of my tempermental skin, so all my actual face make-up is Estee Lauder.
In my make-up bag you would find: Concealer Powder Blush Eyeliner (black, brown, and green) Eyeshadow (Various colors, but my favorite is brown and then I do a layering process with various colors blue) This makes my eyes very blue :) Black mascara I have various lipsticks, but I never wear that. I think that it's too messy. It only takes me a couple minutes to do my make-up so it's not a hassle at all. I look ok without makeup, but I prefer to have some on just to give my face that extra something. |
When I wear foundation, my upper lip sweats it all off, and when I wear lipstick it always gums up around the inside of my lips. It's such a bother that if I wear makeup at all, its usually just a little eyeliner.

i heard that to prevent getting that line of "gummy lipstick" near the inside of your lips, it's good to exfoliate your lips ect... I find that still doesn;t work..and everytime I wear lipstick, I'm always cheking for that line to appear so that I can rub it off lol :|
|
I use Desert Essence - their moisturiser is quite nice and I've found it makes my skin look better- clears it up a bit. I used to use Aveda (the really expensive stuff) but I actually like DE better- and it's cheaper. I get it at my local natural grocery store- try Earth Fare, Greenlife, or Whole Foods (least on the East Coast).
A similar question- what's the best facewash to use? I use Aveda but it's $28 for a four-ounce bottle... if I could find something cheaper that works just as well (I have pretty normal skin- my nose is a bit oily and has clogged pores I'm always working on) it'd be great :D |

Moisturizers I use are Neutrogena untinted w/SPF15 or 30 (30, if I can find it - staying out of the sun and ALWAYS wearing sunblock is the BEST way to avoid wrinkles) or Estee Lauder's Daywear Creme for daytime. I swtich around to help avoid acne. Wierd, but I've found that switching moisturizers and foundations helps a lot. For night I use Astara's Intense Moisture, or something close to that. Astara's kinda pricey, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the entire line. |

For a cheap exfoliant I add baking soda to my cleanser every once in a while. You can also buy jojoba beads and do the same. I do NOT use the ground up apricot seeds or whatever scrubs. the scrubby stuff in there is rough (actually has rough edges), and can tear up your skin, and actually make acne and other skin conditions much worse. Jojoba beads are shperical, no edges, and work great. I am a HUGE skin care whore. And it shows. :) |
Sage - I'm definitely going to look into DE - I'm currently using Aveda also right now... and my wallet is not looking forward to refilling the trio of facewash items.

Ah and the question about how dependent we are on this. I think if some of us make it so much a part of our routine, the tendency to create an attachment is pretty high. I have an aunt who will takes 2 hours to get ready, just to go to church even. She relies so much on make up that she avoids answering the door if she doesn't have any. I'm not sure why either, she's 48 and she looks so great, many people mistake for her being in her late thirties....
When you get used to seeing yourself enhanced, and the attention you get from doing so is heightened, I believe, can, be an addiction... |

Here is a link to the Costco site: http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...opnav=&browse= As for my own make-up habits...I love make-up. Love vamping it up. But I only get to do it when I go out on my own or with friends--the SO prefers me natural, which is good because I don't like to wear too much make-up on a daily basis. I can't wear it for work (it would just melt off). So when I do wear make-up, it's usually quite tame: --Prestige black or brown eyeliner (Prestige is the best eyeliner I've found for the money) --Lip gloss, usually Neutrogena --Mac or Rimmel eyeshadow --Lancome mascara Generally, I like to use a light gold shadow from Mac on my lids, a nice neutral gloss on my lips, and about 10 coats of mascara (Lancome doesn't clump, no matter how much you put on, and I like more). For me, with very dark lashes and brows, it is a very natural look. I should also note, that if one put together all the make-up I own or have purchased in the last three years, it would easily take up over two cardboard boxes. That's right--two. |
I'm a total non-make up person.. I like gloss or something on my lips, because otherwise they get dry - but regular makeup.. doesn't help me... back in high school and college and a few years after in summer theater, I used to do makeup for stage.. and can make anyone look great - except me :(
Moisturizer is essential... especially wiht SPF in it -- I won't leave the house without it - Oil of Olay was great when I was in my 20s... but my skin has gotten so much dryer now.. I really like Lancome's Absolue line.. it's pricey but it's got a creaminess without greasiness that really absorbs and doesn't clog pores. I also like Origins masks.. those are good for monthly deep cleanings. |

About your moisturizer question, I've been using Neutrogena Combination skin for sometime now. It's made for normal to oily skin so it acts contingent on need..I religiously after showers, before bed and in the morning...... |
