For you girls that color your own hair.....

have you ever gone against the instructions and dyed your eyebrows? If so how did they turn out?

maleficent 10-14-2005 11:23 AM

If you do your eyebrows, you want to leave it on for a very short time.. and apply it with a tooth brush... being very careful to avoid the skin... use vasoline on the areas around your eyebrows...

My mom does her eyebrows like mal said, and hasn't had any problems. She's also been doing it for years.

maleficent 10-14-2005 11:35 AM

most salons will do it for about 15 bucks and that will often include a eyebrow shaping... you might want to consider having it done by a professional.

ShaniFaye 10-14-2005 12:10 PM

now why would I wanna do that when I can get my dye and do it myself for 9.99

Being that it is so close to your wedding do you want to end up with burnt off eyebrows or something?? I would have it done somewhere!

ShaniFaye 10-14-2005 12:25 PM

well thats why I was asking if it had been done. I honestly dont have the money to go get my hair dyed anywhere right now, and I'd have to get them to do my hair along with my eyebrows if I wanted it to match

I just slap on a bit while i'm dying my hair- always turns out fine for me.

Hmm.

As far as I know, if you have to dye your eyebrows to make it look natural, then it's the wrong color for your hair. I was a hair model and I remember being given that advice. What is your natural color? What color are you changing it to? If you are truly satisfied with the color you have chosen, more power to you. Just heed the advice about not leaving it on the brows too long.

I have been dying my hair the same color for 18 years.....red (Im naturally a dark brunette which I cannot stand), I dont think I'd be still dying it if I wasnt satisfied with it

I've never considered it before.....but I dont want my eyebrows to stand out in my wedding pictures in 2 weeks.

maleficent 10-15-2005 08:36 AM

that woman you had talked to about doing your make up for the wedding -- you might want to ask her for some 'professional' advice on it... sometimes just using eyeshadow or eyeliner on the brow line (depending on how much you do or don't tweeze) can be enough to get the colors to match. (I've watched entirely too many makeover shows.... :(

Shani, Maybelline has a brow styling gel with various colors and they might have one with a reddish tint.

I have auburn hair(natural) and while I have eyebrows, they are too light to be seen except close up, so I use an eyebrow powder. Maybelline I believe makes it. I would certainly consider dying the brows even though I don't color my hair.
Shani, if this is for the wedding, I think I'd go with the powder or a mousse. What if you dye them and they're too dark?

Sorceress 10-18-2005 09:28 PM

I have never tried to dye my eyebrows, but I have been dying my hair for years. I too am a naturally dark brunette. When I was dying my hair red, I used a redish copper colored eye liner and some artful tweesing to do my eyebrows. It worked well, people often refused to believe it wasn't the color I was born with. You can always find a way to make it all look good without taking too much of a risk, especially if you have really sensitive skin, or are easily bothered by chemical smells and so on.
