Full Figured Swimsuits
A TFP gentleman has asked the following question on behalf of his girlfriend (Yes, she's been invited to join...)
She's looking for advice on finding swimwear for a fuller figure... I'm sure we'll have plenty of questions for him, so ask away, and he'll monitor the thread and respond to questions to one of the moderators via PM. |
one of my favorite websites for fashion, though they are a little pricey, you definitely get what you pay for.. the quality is superb, and they are nice conservative suits (I like them for the health clubs at the hotels I spend time at)
http://www.junonia.com/ - has lots of choices in both seperates and one piece suits and lots of colors too... First question for our gentleman caller is -- what size is your fair lady... |
My sisters are rubenesque. I'll ask where they find their swimsuits. Landsend.com has attractive suits up to size 18. Pickings get pretty slim by this time of year, however.
Is your gf familiar with the tankini? It has the convenience of a two-piece without the bare midrift. |
I jumped the gun.... :) the properly phrased question is:
Here is the question: I am a 36c and have a size 14 waist, this makes it hard to find a bathing suit that fits right off the rack. Half the tops don't give me enough support and at the same time half the bottoms show too much. I'm looking to buy a bathing suit with a very supportive top with something like boyshort bottoms. Anyone know where I can find bathing suits to suit me? (hehe pun). -thanks |
one catalog/website you might try is http://www.newport-news.com (I think at one point they were owned by Avon -- not that that means anything) they have a lot of swimsuits, up to size 18 - and sell them as seperates.. the prices are really good.. and they are definitely not yuor mother's bathing suits...

I have about a 36/38 D and about a size 14 waist. I haven't been able to find a suit that fits right, so I ended up with a two piece that I just wear with a tank top/swimshorts. I've found that at most stores now, when you want a suit, most of the two pieces are sold separately so you can mix and match. I suppose that would help if one needed two different sizes.

Lands end lands end lands end!!! I love their suits- they come in a plethora of sizes, and have a variety of other features- such as suggestions as to which suit looks best on which body type, and a variety of crotch legnths (petite, normal, tall) which is great for me as I'm a 16/36D/long torso
on another topic... sillygirl, you doin' anything tonight? Cause you sound like a hottie! |
As one of those blessed/cursed overly curvy but of average weight women (size 8-10, 34DD), I can honestly say that bathing suits and big boobs just don't mix! I haven't found a suit that fit and I liked since junior high. Even tankinis are a problem, as it just hangs kind of loose around my waist.
There is a bathing suit only store in the mall in my city where you can order certain suits in a specific bra size, but they were expensive and... senior-citizenish? You know.. with the ruffles and flounces and "tropical" patterns. If you are just going for functionality and not cuteness, the speedo-like competative swimming racer back suits work well. When all else fails... swim naked! or fully clothed! Both work well. |
For bikinis I go to Target. They sell seperates so I can pick a bigger bottom or a bigger top depending on what I want. I've also found that they sell some pretty sturdy halter-top styles (being 38D this is important) so I get good support.
As for one-pieces, I usually buy Nike racing suits ;) Also check out Nordstroms--they usually have a good selection of swimwear when it's in season. |
Next suit I get I'm going to try out this company (Wild Iris):
http://www.swimsuit4u.com/ It's a very custom swimsuit site, and you can even see the seamlines/diagrams, and have a good idea of how much support is offered in the tops, etc. Don't have experience with them yet, but hopefully soon. |
i feel your pain. i haven't found a well fitting bathing suit in years, and i just avoid having to wear one now altogether.
i do own a bikini, but being a size 36D with a an 11 waist, i still feel very exposed [especially when ones boobs are popping out and bobbing about all over the place]. i usually wear a white tank top over top to gain SOME comfort. |
I hate buying bathingsuits *grumble grumble* I am really self concious so I go for like a full suit with a wrap.. ( you can swim in the wraps lol ) (yeah, Ima dork!)
And you know what? I hate how every freaking suit out there is made for women with no butts... I definitely have a booty... where is a suit for me? lol |
