Hair Advice!
I need a new hair style. My hair is long and boring right now, and I think I'd like something new.
The problem is, I don't have a clue as to what to do with it! I'd sort of like to hack it all off again (I'd show you pictures, but I was only fourteen) but Simon doesn't find me as attractive with hair too much shorter than ear length. Yes, I know, I shouldn't base my hair on my boyfriend, but I figure that there are a lot more styles out there that aren't quite that short and it goes both ways. I get say in his hair style too! So ladies, I come to you. I'm willing to cut it quite short and I'd add colour, I just want some advice. |
I would say add a few layers and some highlightes. It will change your look without going crazy short. Plus look in the books that they have at the beauty shops, all different styles. And your hairdresser (that is if you trust their opinion) can give you hints. Hope you find something you like!!

How about this? I think it would look good on you . . . and the auburn would be pretty with your skin.

I'll second the layers and the hilights. Change up your hair color- perhaps try a lighter shade of brunette. You can use the stuff that washes out so you can play around with the colors until you find one you really really like. I like the style that sweetpea suggested. I actually dyed my hair "Tawny" last night, so now it's like dark mahogany, and I swear it's the neatest thing i've ever seen! :)

Invest in a good haircut too. There is something to the phrase, "You get what you pay for." If you go to a "hair cuttery" you may get unnatural looking highlights and/or a flat cut.
|
Layers are key. If you want more volume to your hair, get some great layers, and from a hairdresser that really knows what they are doing
So yah, get some layers to your hair, and try out some washable colours, see what goes the best with your skintone, then maybe subtle highlights that give it that extra oompfh. ;) |

This was one place I saw (http://hairstyles.virtual-hairstyles...hairstyles.asp) I think it's free, but I know there are more that exist... Virtual Style places.. .where you upload your picture. . and you can try out different hair styles AND colors and see what you like and don't like. Then print out the styles and take them with you to the salon.
(and of course show us :) |
Thanks ladies! So many resources!
Pinkie... I'm especially fond of the third one you posted. Perhaps something like that with a mahogany colour or auburn colour? I promise I'll post once I get it done! I'm a little nervous about cutting off my hair again. |

Best of luck, please show us when you do take the plunge! (Oh, and I like Mal's idea too) |
My hair is shoulder length, before it used to be about halfway down my back. I have a round/square face and thought that bangs would make me look chubby. Buuut I went and got them anyways. I have long side-swept bangs and I love them. I wash my hair at night and usually pin them to the side to get one look, or I'll just leave them and let them do their own thing. I can pin them back and do a whole bunch of different things with them. The best thing about my haircut is no styling. Keep that in mind. If you're not into doing a bunch of things to your hair like me tell your stylist so you don't end up with a haircut you have to spend 30 minutes styling. Good luck and I'm sure no matter how you get it cut you'll look gorgeous.

I was growing my hair to donate it, but I don't know if I can keep waiting. It grows really really slowly... I'll see about the ten inches thing. I may have made the mark!
I think I'm going with the third picture Pinkie posted! I'll try to get it done soon so I don't chicken out! Thanks everyone! |

GREAT choice!! Can't wait to see it!!! :icare: Sweetpea |
I recently got my hair cut a lot shorter than it was and I have this piece of advice for you - consider how much time you'll be willing to spend fussing with it for it to look right. If you're not used to having a "hairstyle" you might not find that you're willing to spend the amount of time it requires.
I had fairly plain, long hair for just about all my life and now I'm having to experiment with a few different cuts and haven't really found one that works for me yet. My first one was kind of like the first picture pinkie posted, and now it's more of a layered, chin-length bob but it's still not really flattering I think. My next step is to let the layers grow out a little and get it cut again, maybe more like that first picture sweetpea posted. I don't know if you're like me, but I'm too much of a tomboy at heart to spend half an hour in front of the mirror making my hair perfect in the morning, so for me it has to be all in the cut. The thing I think I've figured out is, the hairstylist I've been going to is layering my hair so that it's really smooth and even, so it naturally falls into kind of a formed shape, like a mushroom cap kind of. I don't really like that much, I've decided, so if I'm going to have layers they need to be more "chunky" or something. Hope that helps. :) |
Look forward to seeing you cello!
Squishie, I bet you look cute as hell! |
I probably won't even cut my hair really short again, partly because my b/f would kill me, and I agree that I look better with long hair.
But I got some really light streaks put in (I have very dark hair), and I had TONS of people commenting on how hot it made me look. So, even if someone doesn't want to cut, they can still change their look with color and highlights. |
hmm... how much work would a haircut like the one I'm planning on take to maintain?
Just a little? As in, brush and maybe (only maybe!) a bit of product? |

Tell your stylist when you get it cut that you would prefer something wash and wear/low-maintenance. My style is perfect for me as sometimes I don't mind putting in a little bit of effort to make my hair look really good, while sometimes I just don't feel like it :) |
Thanks! I'll need to ask Tony to make it nice and easy for me! ;)
