Dooney and Bourke purses
Is anyone else in love with Dooney and Bourke purses/wallets like i am? I have a bag and wallet from the "It Bags" collection. I have the black Bucket bag, with the matching wallet, and as soon as i get my tax refund i am going to get the white tassel tote and the wallet. All of my friends think that they are a waste of money. Just wanting to know if anyone else likes Dooney and Bourke.

There's also another site that sells the knockoffs - http://www.anyknockoff.com/ - they have copies of most of the designer bags.
I like simplicity myself, and don't like advertising for someone unless they are paying me, so the logos just annoy me. Older Coach leather bags are still my favorites, and they take a beating and just last and last. My current bag, which I got on sale at TJ Maxx for 1/2 of what it would have cost in the store, is about 3 years old, and except for one paint stain, the bag is in perfect condition. My Coach laptop bag, which I stopped carrying because it was destroying my shoulder, was about 5 years old and got constant use, also is in perfect condition, and I'm not that responsible a person -- the bags just wear well

I hate carrying a purse, so if I am going to it had better be something I love.
My favorite, everyday purse is made out of license plates and VW bug hubcaps: http://shop.littlearth.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.70/.f I ordered Utah plates, hoping for this pretty one: But instead I got an old blue and white one - they just give you what they have in stock. I love it, though, and it's certainly a conversation starter. Staff at stores and restaurants remember me because of the purse The other ones I have for more special occasions are a green silk chinese takeout box and a black bustier with multicolored buttons.

lurkette, those are really neat bags. i really like the roadflair ones!
i like the d&b purses too, but i just can't bring myself to spend that much on a bag. i'm more of the type that likes to have different wallets/purses with different outfits, so it'd get kinda expensive if i did that with d&b's or other designer purses.

i LOVE dooney and bourke!!!! I have the same black bucket one!!! i absolutely love it. I have had it for almost a year and i would not trade it for anyother purse. My bf and his friends think that it was way to much for a purse and they make fun of it and call it the "douche bag" it pisses me off!!! But hopefully i will get a new one soon. But yes they are the coolest bags ever!!!

...when I first saw this thread title, I bit my tongue so hard it bled ...
but I think I have it under control now ... and since i have a hard time resisting fashion topics anyways. re: d & b bags - hmm, not at all my style but if it really makes you happy, rock it. keep in mind also they make some ok bags that are a bit more low-key (if you like them for the name/quality, not necessarily logo). re: the price - eh, I'd have no problem paying for a pricey bag if I could afford it. re: knockoffs - I'm torn. Money is the problem, really. and there's a grey area ... from 'inspired by's' to full-on fakes. some knockoffs are the epitome of tack (fake lv, anyone?) ... but on the other hand, for example, I would love a Balenciaga Le Dix, and I doubt I'd be able to afford a real one for a couple/few years ... I admit, I've looked on a few sites .... considered ... still considering ... re: bags in general - eh, I'm boring, at the moment. Using a large black Hype Durango that I got at tjmaxx for 1/2 retail. matches my 'style', roomy, can carry in hand or on shoulder, decent quality. re: the site mal posted - heh, cool site, almost too cheap though. I guess for me, if I'm going to do a 'fake' I don't want it to scream 'fake!'. on the other hand, sometimes I think it could be fun to have some things ...

I've bought stuff from Anyknockoffs, never a handbag, because they really aren't my thing -- I find a bag, and will use it until it falls apart... but their jewelry (they have a lot of inspired by tiffany silver stuff) that looks good and the prices are great.
I think I'd prefer the inspired by to a fake that you can buy on and street corner in NY, the fake LV's, I think, are easy to spot. The stiching is wrong, and the leather at the bottom of the bag is the wrong color, and while the bags don't look cheap, they are fakes. I'd rather have a bag in the same style as a designer, and not pay the designer prices... as long as it held together... (which is why I love my Coach)

Man, FINALLY I know where all the fake LV purses in Asheville are coming from!
I HATE the fake purse thing... to me it's like, if you want the desiger label, go for the real thing, don't try to impress me with some painfully obvious fake. My current fave bag is a big roomy one my aunt got me that was hand crocheted in nepal or something... it's really colorful and holds all kinds of crap. I love purses, but I swich my purses so much it wouldn't be worth it to buy expensive ones!

Oh. My. God. Dooney & Bourke stuff rocks my world. I have yet to wear one out and I use them like crazy! And to think that I used to hate purses! *maniacal howl*
My diaper bag is the little black Kate Spade "Sam." Love it and it's the perfect size. I don't see Kate bags lasting anywhere near as long as the DB, though... I have yet to get into Coach, but I'm dying to. I love Coach everything, though. LOL

I love having a bag to match my outfit, so I have about 20, but the designer stuff doesn't do anything for me, mostly because of the price, so all of mine tend to come from Factory 2 You or Big Lots or, if I must, Target.
My standard bag is a big old brown leather thing that's soft, and worn, and has wear spots on it that give it character and just make it comfortable, like an old freind. If the designer stuff pleases you, go for it, that's wonderful for you, but I just can't see paying $200 and up for a purse for myself.

I feel so ignorant reading this thread. My first thought was "what's a Dooney and Bourke?"
... My purse is a bag I bought from walmart when I was 17. It's black, and it has a flat bottom which makes it perfect for sneaking munchies into the movies. Very practical, but certainly not as cool by a long shot as those licence plate deals. But I just can't bring myself to pay $80 for a handbag... especially when that money could be spent on computer parts. Coloured fans are soooo in. :-D |

Oh, I remember the day I first laid eyes on a D&B purse, it was love at first sight. Having finished my morning housework, I sat down to take a peek at my new Spiegel's catalog, just love the Spiegel's, and turning the page I saw that D&B and I had to have it. Since that most fateful day, I have had a love relationship with the Dooney & Bourke.

Iave two purses, both designer, that I got at Ross for less than $10 each. That's where I go for purses. I can spend a little bit of money but still get something that looks super-nice and will last a long freakin' time. Can't go wrong.
I really don't like purses with logos stamped all over them...it annoys me. If I'm going to advertise for someone, they had better be paying me damn good money to do so.
