Fake Tan

There was a little discussion last summer about airbrush tanning, but it didn't get very far. I'm looking for a really light fake tan, just to put on my legs so the blemishes aren't so obvious. it's gotten so warm here in Oregon (77 today!!!) that I went and bought some shorts and skirts. I want something light, so it won't look odd just on my legs, although if it had a decent SPF I might put it all over.
I really don't like tanning, as I'm afraid of skin cancer, and I like to be the odd one out with pale skin. :p
Any suggestions of specific brands?

yay, first thread started!

Neutrogena's self-tanners are usually very good in quality and you can choose how light or dark you want it.

I've heard that the Sally Hansen airbrush legs is awesome, you should be able to find it in the cosmetic aisle of a grocery or drugstore. It's specifically made for legs and comes in several shades.

cool, I'll pick something up when I go by Freddy's tonight and report the results sometime this weekend. :)

I've seen a lot of ads for a home airbrush tanning "system" (personal pet peeve of mine, I hate that word...) I htink it's sally hansen - -it' looks cool, but the old sally hansen self tanners used to have a real orange tone to them - -hopefully the formula has improved.

I am very very fair skinned, and burn rather than tan -- the neutrogena stuff (light) has me ending up with a very light tan. The smell is a little off when it applies, but it lasts for a few days and it does not ever look range. any self tanner you apply, be sure to apply it with gloves, then when youare done use a small sponge and apply it to the back of your hands...

SO, the only thing they had at our shitty, shitty freddy's that was "light" was they Gradual stuff from Coppertone. It's pretty good for a light tan, but I think if I went any darker it would go orange. So, it works for what I need. I'm not sure I'd put it on my arms or face, I think it's too orangy for that, but on the legs it doesn't show.

Hey, you should really try the thing I saw at nordstrom. I saw it at target as well. It's like stocking's for your leg's but yet, its in a spray can. Spray it on and your good to go. At target they have the as seen on tv thing's and they have a fake tan spray thingy its cool.

My only suggestion is don't go and do that mist-on tanning; the one where you stand in the booth and this big arm swings around and sprays the stuff on. It's really hard to get all even because you have to smooth it after you get out of the booth. And then even if you can get it to look even and not streakyright away, it fades differently in some areas. I looked like I had weird freckle masses all over my body as some skin went back to white and some parts stayed all spotty.

Origins has a body bronzer/tanner that darkens proportionate to your skin tone. Not orange at all, and it has a little bit of that shimmer stuff, some people don't like that. Lasts for a good couple days before needing to reapply. I like it, although I don't have much trouble tanning once the weather warms up like it has.

I recommend Neutrogena's sunless tanner. Back in 2001, my brother tested about 5 brands for me to choose the best one for me to use to fix my sports bra tan in time for prom. (What a guy :) He had an orange stripey leg when he finished.) Neutrogena was the least orange and just about as easy to use as most of the other kinds. You just have to make sure to blend it in well and not miss any spots... and wash your hands when you finish!

Neutrogena all the way. No streaks, little mess, and you dont look orange at all. Neutrogena definitely gets my vote.

I've used a number of them. There's one Neutrogena foam (I think neutrogena) that I've liked. It dries quickly and doesn't streak much. Goes on with color so I can see how it looks. I got a can of the airbrush stuff that I want to try this year. Also I just recently saw an ad. I think it was Jergens. Something like Body Glo or something similar. Supposed to be VERY gradual and last longer - dunno. Just put on daily as a moisturizer - sounded like. That might be perfect so long as the color didn't come off on clothes. Might not be an issue if it's so pale. I did notice that it said it only worked on light to medium tone skin. I'll be watching for it and trying it so long as it's not too expensive to get a small bottle just to try.

Fake Tan

The best self tanner I've ever used is Jergen's Natural Glow. It's fairly new and it's a combination body lotion/self-tanner. I have VERY pale olive/yellow undertoned skin and almost every self tanner I've tried has turned me orange. The first time I tried this I didn't so much as tan but get a healthy looking glow, like I sat in the sun for a while. It deepens gradually with every use and the color remains very natural. I've also used it on my face with no problems. It's about $6 at drugstores.
