Ohhh I am an expert on this!! I have been using it for two years and I LOVE IT.

You cannot feel it at all once it is inside. I have NEVER had any side effects at all and my doctor told me it is a very low dose of hormones. You just have to use your fingers to put it in yourself kinda like a tampon but a little bit more involved. Once it is in there the shape of it does not allow it to come out until you take it out three weeks later.

My man says he doesnt feel it at all with his cock. Sometimes he can feel it with his fingers though. He doesnt care and says it doesnt bother him at all. I have found it to be the best birth control I have ever used.

It is so far inside of you that when you have sex it might be pushed further in and your guy will not feel it or stick his cock through it bc it is compacted to a very small ring once it is inside.

I highly recommend it.

yay thanks nikki i'm totally going to try it..just one more ? like does it effect the birth control if it moves like during sex? and if its really far in is it like hard to umm get out? cuz the idea of trying to stick my hand in tehre to feel around for it sends chills of panic down my spine

No the birth control part is not effected bc of the fact that your body absorbs the birth control no matter what position the ring is in. Like I said, I have been using it for two years with no issues. Your uterus is only so big so when I say that it goes far back in there it is not like you have to use your whole hand. Just fingers. Oh and you can easily feel where it is and remove it.

Damn this sounds like a good deal... definitely better than having squares of adhesive on my butt left over from the Patch.

*Nikki*, did you switch from your previous birth control? I'm wondering if there's any side effects from switching over... but I've heard the ring is a lot like the Patch, just easier to use.

I'm tempted to try it myself... KinkyKiwi, let us know how it goes for you!!

aren't there any toxic-shock syndrome reactions to this foreign object inside your body? I hate the idea of something inside me permanently that doesn't belong there...

Toxic Shock is related to bacteria that occurs when menstral blood is trapped inside the body for long periods of time.

It is not at all related to this product.

Nikki's done a great job answering the questions, I just wanted to second everything she's said. I had absolutely no issues switching from the pill, two years ago as well, and I would cry if I ever had to go back.

Also, I wouldn't necessarily recommend this, but one week I was overloaded with work and forgot to remove the ring. Remembered when it was time to use a new one, and ended up just skipping my period that week.

Forever I did that also, but I actually wanted to skip it on purpose.

However, when I did finally get my period it was HORRIBLE and I bled for many many days and the cramps were crazy.

So I would not recommend skipping your period with this product. Although my doctor said it was cool to do, that pain wasn't!!

Question: Can you still have sex when it's out of you and you're having your period? (My guess is no, but still, worth a shot asking.)

I'm sure you can, la petite moi... it's just like the week of placebo pills that you take when you get your period, or my week when I take off the patch and have my period. Even on the pill, part of your prescription includes one week of sugar pills that don't do anything, so it's like eating candy (just to keep you on schedule, basically), and I assume you still have sex then? Should be just as safe on the ring.

You can actually take the ring out when it's active and have sex...provided you replace it within three hours. As for during your period, the hormone absorbed during the three "active" weeks prevent ovulation. Therefore, no problem.

I just started the ring yesterday so I got the full run-down from my doctor. I have to say it was easy to put in. I can't feel it at all. I am really desperate to try sex while on it to see what he has to say about it.

I'm hoping it works out. I hate the pill.

Well, I always use a condom period. But my doc said it's totally okay and you're protected providing you're leaving the ring in for three weeks at a stretch in a 21-day cycle similar to the active pills of birth control.

onesnowyowl, we use a condom every time too, come to think of it. But for a brief while when we didn't use it every time, we used it during the possible ovulation week only. Please let us know how your man likes/dislikes the ring, as I am interested to try it and also if you get nauseous or sore breasts or anything.

So Nikki, that week of your period isn't the most necessary time for a condom, even though it might seem so since the ring is out. Rather, it would be the week when you would otherwise ovulate (the 8th-16th day of your cycle), even if the ring is in. If the BC wasn't working (which it is, with 99.9% certainty), you would be most fertile during that time.

I guess to me the ring being out=scary time I might get pregnant.

I have never ever counted the days in my cycle that might be the most likely time for me to get pregnant. I just rely on my BC to be as effective as it says it is and that has always worked for me.

So I had sex for the first time with the ring last night. Afterwards I grilled him to see if he'd noticed anything different. Not a thing. He said he probably only would've noticed if it had caused him pain somehow, haha.

Boy, I love this! Now if he wants I can forgo the condoms and suck him off afterwards. I bet he'll love that! Yippee!!!

Is it sticky or slimy or anything? Doesn't rinsing it in water wash away any of the important stuff? I guess I'm confused about how it only releases the hormone when it's in your vagina.

re: slime

SC - it's just dry with a soft finish to it. Supple, yet firm... yes, I'm only talking about the ring, here! No slime or anything. It's supposed to work a little like LSD combined with osmosis. The ring is a semi-permeable material, and I believe it works only one way.

I have another question - I've been having some discomfort during sex - I can feel it in there as a friction point. I took it out last night (much to Quadro's dismay, he's concerned about pregnancy just a little!!), but that caused a nasty headache this morning. Any suggestions on placement?? Are you SURE it's okay to take out during booty only??

Yes, I'm sure it's okay to take out during booty.

As for placement, I push mine straight up and then forward so that the bottom edge sits firmly behind my pubic bone and it loops around my cervix. Haven't had any issues with sex discomfort with it in that position.

Nope, that's about right--that's just fitting with the shape of your vagina. The vagina is shorter than people think when you're not aroused

Hey, I just went for my annual and after much discussion, got a prescription for the ring!! Yesssss I am very excited about this. Goodbye, lint-bordered, itchy, nausea-inducing patch (in 2 weeks).

Most of all I am super glad that it's lower dosage, because my emotions and moods have been absolute hell lately (see all of my recent threads, sheesh) and I am looking at any cause as a contributing factor... including my BC.

Also, I don't know if it was mentioned in this thread, but the nurse told me it was fine to take it out for sex for up to three hours in any 24 hour time period. I suppose the ideal thing would be to take it out only for insertion and thrusting, assuming you don't do that for 3 hours. But this was good news for me, in case it doesn't feel good for either of us during sex.

lpm- yea you can and your supposed to start it like during your period..my gyno said the first day of my period or the first sunday after i get my period. like just make sure the ring doesnt come out with the tampon and you may need to change the tampon more often then you normally would to avoid leaks.

Seems like these doctors are giving all sorts of mixed messages. My doctor told me not to start it until the Sunday after my period (of course this is refering to the first time you use it). She said that otherwise it might screw up my cycle. So this to me might be the reason Kiwi is having trouble with hers....
